Air Commodore Ibrahim Alkali (born 15 June 1940) [1] was a Military Governor of Kwara State from October 1987 to December 1989 during the military regime of Major General Ibrahim Babangida. [2] He attended Barewa College,Zaria. [3]
He holds the traditional title of Turakin Fika. He was also honoured with the traditional title of Shettima of Igbaja Land by Oba Ahmed Awuni Arepo the third. [4]
Grp.Capt.Ibrahim Alkali became the tenth governor of Kwara State on 19 December 1987 and made his mark in various spheres of the life of the region.His administration oversaw the construction of the Kwara State Library,which was commissioned in November 1989,and also launched the state chapter of The Nomadic Education Programme,which later spawned Nomadic Primary Schools. Alkali also initiated the construction of an Olympic-sized swimming pool at the Kwara Stadium Complex,which now hosts national and international swimming competitions,as well as an ultra-modern theatre complex for the Council for Arts and Culture at Geri Alimi in Ilorin as part of the effort to develop the burgeoning cultural potential of the state. He created and had constructed the High Court and the Sharia Court of Appeal at Ilorin The Beautification Scheme,instigated by this government,saw the installation of major roundabouts at llorin,while the Kwara State Mass Transportation System(Kwara Express) was commissioned on 18thFebruary 1988 for the convenience of the population.The administration also provided streetlights on major roads in llorin and completed the stylish Kwara House In Lagos,at a cost of over N15 million,to provide decent accommodation for the governor of the state and other top government officials. University of Ilorin,also known as UNILORIN,is a federal government-owned public-research university in Ilorin,Kwara State,Nigeria. The university's main campus sits on an expansive area of land,about 15,000 hectares in the ancient city of Ilorin;making it the largest university in Nigeria and one of the largest in Africa by landmass. The university comprises 17 faculties and over 100 academic departments. It was established by a decree of the Federal Military Government of Nigeria in August,1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan,which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower,which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country,the institution has one of the largest land areas,covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. This premises had been abandoned and merely serve as a route to the Catholic Compound and was also used for administering a newly conceived secondary school in that name. The Nigerian Navy considered the site and found it suitable. After the return to democracy in 1999 he was elected governor of Kwara State,holding office from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003.

Kwara State Library is a public library in Kwara State,Nigeria. The library was established soon after the state was created in 1967 when it was found that the library in Kaduna was inadequate. The library was renovated in 2005,establishing the administrative,technical,and acquisition divisions. Its headquarters are in the state capital Ilorin,with divisional libraries in Jebba and Offa. It was established with the aim of providing qualitative and adequate reading resources for the people of the state,irrespective of age,educational background,status in the state,religion and gender.
