Rokan Hilir ("Lower Rokan") is a regency (kabupaten) of Riau Province, on Sumatra island, Indonesia. It was formed on 4 October 1999 from districts which had previously been the northwestern part of Bengkalis Regency. [2] It occupies the lower part of the catchment area of the Rokan River, and has an area of 8,851.59 km2. It had a population of 553,216 at the 2010 census [3] and 637,161 at the 2020 census; [4] the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 638,407 (comprising 337,559 males and 320,848 females). [1] The administrative centre of the Rokan Hilir Regency is located at the town of Bagansiapiapi.
As at 2010, the regency was divided into thirteen districts (kecamatan), but two additional districts (Kubu Babusalam and Pekaitan) were created by splitting of the Kubu and Bangko districts respectively; and more recently three more districts (Tanjung Medan, Bagan Sinembah Raya and Balai Jaya) were added by splitting of the Pujud and Bagan Sinembah districts respectively. The eighteen districts are listed below with their areas and populations at the 2010 census [3] and the 2020 census, [4] together with the official estimates as at mid 2022. [1] The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of administrative villages in each district (a total of 159 rural desa and 25 urban kelurahan), and its post code.

Bengkalis Regency is a regency of Indonesia in Riau Province. The regency was originally established in 1956 and then included most of the northern part of the province, but on 4 October 1999 it was divided up, with most of the territory being split off to form the new Rokan Hilir Regency, Siak Regency and the city of Dumai. On 19 December 2008 a further five districts were removed to create the new Meranti Islands Regency, leaving eight districts in the Bengkalis Regency, which quantity has increased since 2010 to eleven by the splitting of existing districts on the Sumatran mainland.
Bulungan Regency is a regency of North Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. It covers an area of 13,181.92 km2 and had a population of 112,663 at the 2010 Census and 151,844 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 157,593. The administrative centre is at Tanjung Selor.
Gorontalo is a regency of Gorontalo Province, Indonesia, on the island of Sulawesi. It was established in 1959 under Law Number 29/1959, but has subsequently been reduced in area as additional regencies have been cut out of it. It now has an area of 2,125.47 km2 and had a population of 355,988 at the 2010 Census and 393,107 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 398,801. The administrative headquarters of the regency is in the town of Limboto.
Indragiri Hilir is the most eastern regency (kabupaten) of Riau Province, Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency has an area of 13,525.10 km2 and had a population of 661,779 at the 2010 census and 654,909 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 660,747. The administrative centre of the regency is the town of Tembilahan.
Kuantan Singingi is a regency (kabupaten) of Riau, Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency was created on 4 October 1999 from what had been the western half of Indragiri Hulu Regency. It has an area of 7,656.03 km² and had a population of 292,116 at the 2010 Census and 334,943 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 345,850. The seat of the regency is the town of Teluk Kuantan.
Rokan Hulu is a regency (kabupaten) of Riau, Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. Rokan Hulu Regency was created on 4 October 1999 as a result of the division of Kampar Regency, of which it was previously the western 24%. The new Regency was established under Law No. 53 of 1999 and Law No. 11 of 2003 on changes to Law Decree No. 53 of 1999, which is reinforced by the Constitutional Court Decision No. 010 / PUU-1/2004, dated 26 August 2004. It mainly occupies the upper part of the catchment area of the Rokan River, and has an area of 7,588.13 km². It had 474,843 inhabitants at the 2010 Census and 561,385 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 582,679. The administrative centre of the regency is located at Pasir Pengaraian.
Tanah Bumbu is one of the regencies in the Indonesian province of South Kalimantan. It was formerly part of Kotabaru Regency, but was split off on 25 February 2003 to form a separate regency, following dissatisfaction on the Kalimantan mainland territories with administration from Laut Island. It covers an area of 4,890.3 km2 and had a population of 267,929 at the 2010 Census and 322,646 at the 2020 Census; the latest official estimate is 335,079. The regency's capital is the town of Batulicin.
Asahan Regency is a regency in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Following the creation of the new Batubara Regency, the regency now covers an area of 3,702.7 square kilometres; it had a population of 668,272 according to the 2010 census and 769,960 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 787,681. Its administrative centre is now at the town of Kisaran. The Regency surrounds but now does not include the city of Tanjungbalai which was its capital until created an independent city in 1984. The Asahan Sultanate was located in the region.
The Karimun Regency is located in the Riau Islands Province, Indonesia. Besides the central island of Great Karimun, the regency also includes the islands of Kundur and over 240 smaller islands. The district covers a land area of 1,524 km2 and a sea area of 6,460 km2, and its population was 212,561 at the 2010 Census and 253,457 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 266,177.
Batubara Regency is a regency on North Sumatra's eastern shoreline, with Limapuluh as its seat. It was carved out from the seven most westerly coastal districts of Asahan Regency with effect from 15 June 2007. The new regency covers an area of 885.89 km2, and had a population of 375,885 at the 2010 Census and 410,678 at the 2020 Census, of whom 206,551 were male and 204,127 were female; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 416,367.
Samosir Regency is an inland regency in North Sumatra. It was creatred on 18 December 2003 by splitting away the western districts of the former Toba Samosir Regency. The regency covers a land area of 1,444.25 square kilometres, including the whole of Samosir Island in the inland sea of Lake Toba. It had a population of 119,653 at the 2010 census and 136,441 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate for mid 2022 was 139,337. Its seat is the town of Pangururan.
West Bangka Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia. It comprises the northwestern part of Bangka Island, together with a number of small islands off its coast. The regency covers an area of 2,820.61 km2 and had a population of 175,110 at the 2010 Census, rising to 204,612 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 209,791 - comprising 108,102 males and 101,689 females. The town of Muntok is its regency seat.
Simalungun Regency is a regency in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Its seat was formerly at Pematangsiantar, but this city was in 1986 separated from the Regency and made into an independent city (kota), although it remains geographically surrounded by the regency, whose new administrative seat is at Raya. The regency now covers an area of 4,372.5 square kilometres, and at the 2010 census it had a population of 817,720; at the 2020 Census this had risen to 990,246, of whom 497,314 were male and 492,932 were female; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,021,615.
Puncak Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of Central Papua; it is not to be confused with Puncak Jaya Regency, which is within the same province, and from whose western districts those districts now forming Puncak Papua Regency were separated in 2008. It covers an area of 7,396.47 km2, and had a population of 93,218 at the 2010 Census and 114,741 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 116,279. The administrative centre is at Ilaga. The name of the regency is currently being changed to Puncak Papua Regency.
Jayawijaya Regency is one of the regencies (kabupaten) in the Indonesian province of Highland Papua. It occupies an area of 13,925.31 km2 in the Baliem Valley, situated in the central highlands of the province. It had a population of 196,085 at the 2010 Census, and 269,553 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 277,923 - comprising 144,500 males and 133,423 females. Its capital is the town of Wamena.
Merangin is a regency (kabupaten) of Jambi Province on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It was created on 4 October 1999 by the division of the former Sarolangun Bangko Regency into a new Sarolangun Regency and this Merangin Regency. The regency covers an area of 7,668.61 km2, and had a population of 333,206 at the 2010 census and 354,052 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 357,577, comprising 181,850 males and 175,727 females. The administrative capital is the town of Bangko.
Central Lampung Regency is a regency of the province of Lampung, on Sumatra, Indonesia. On 20 April 1999, two areas were separated from the original regency - the southeastern portion was split off to form a separate East Lampung Regency, while the town of Metro was created as an independent city. The reduced regency has an area of 4,545.50 km2 and had a population of 1,170,048 people at the 2010 census and 1,460,045 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,500,002. The regency seat is the town of Gunung Sugih.
West Tulang Bawang Regency is a regency (kabupaten) of Lampung Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. It was created on 29 October 2008 from what were formerly the western districts of Tulang Bawang Regency. It has an area of 1,201.15 km2 and had a population of 250,707 people at the 2010 Census and 286,162 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 289,620. The regency seat is the town of Panaragan Jaya.
Kubu Raya Regency or Great Kubu Regency is a regency of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. It was created on 17 July 2007 from the (larger) central and southern part of what was at that time the Pontianak Regency. It covers an area of 8,492.10 km2, and it had a population of 500,970 at the 2010 Census and 609,392 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 622,217. The principal town lies at Sungai Raya, directly adjacent to the City of Pontianak. Despite its close location to Pontianak, the regional capital and economic centre of the West Kalimantan Province, Kubu Raya highly lacks sufficient infrastructure development, which causes general suspicions on the performance of its local government.
Mempawah Regency is a regency of West Kalimantan Province of Indonesia. Originally including a wider area of West Kalimantan, this Pontianak Regency was reduced on 4 October 1999 by the north-eastern districts being removed to form a new Landak Regency, and was further reduced on 17 July 2007 by its southern districts cut out to create a new Kubu Raya Regency. Since 2007 it covers 2,797.88 km2, and had a population of 234,021 at the 2010 Census and 301,560 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 310,927. The principal town lies at Mempawah.
