The Roswell Recreation and Parks is a municipal department serving the city of Roswell, Georgia. It oversees eight public-use parks covering over 900 acres and sponsors over 25 athletic programs ranging from soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and swimming for all age groups. [1] It has been recognized as one of the top civic recreation programs in the United States. [1] [2] [3] [4] The Roswell Recreations Department also works closely with local middle and high schools by providing practice fields.

Recognition and awards

Roswell's Recreation and Parks department has twice been awarded a silver medal by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). [1] [5] The Roswell Rec is one of only seven agencies in Georgia and 116 in the United States to be accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). [6]

Sandy Springs is Georgia's seventh-largest city and is the site of several corporate headquarters such as UPS, Newell Brands, Inspire Brands, Cox Communications, and Mercedes-Benz USA's corporate offices.

Milton County, Georgia

Milton County was a county of the U.S. state of Georgia from 1857 to 1931. It was created on December 18, 1857 from parts of northeastern Cobb, southeastern Cherokee, and southwestern Forsyth counties. The county was named for John Milton, Secretary of State of Georgia from 1777 to 1799. Alpharetta was the county seat until the end of 1931, when Milton was merged with Fulton County to save it from bankruptcy during the Great Depression. At that time, Campbell County, which had already gone bankrupt, was also ceded to Fulton, giving it its 70-mile (110 km) long irregular shape along the Chattahoochee River.

Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association

The International Mountain Bicycling Association-Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (IMBA-SORBA) is an advocacy organization for mountain biking in the Southeastern United States. IMBA-SORBA is a regional division of International Mountain Bicycling Association, managed by an Executive Director and a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is composed of an elected Executive Board, plus one representative from each chapter. The organization has over 5000 members.

Roswell High School (Georgia) Public school in Roswell, Georgia, United States

Roswell High School (RHS) is a public high school in Roswell, Georgia, United States which opened in 1949. It serves the entire city of Roswell west of Georgia 400 and the city of Mountain Park, as well as small portions of Alpharetta and Milton. With a population of over of 2,221 students in the 2018–19 school year, RHS is one of the largest schools in the Fulton County School System. Roswell High School neighbors both Fellowship Christian School and Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. It is also the second oldest of Fulton County's schools in the northern portion of the county, opening between Milton High School (1921), and Chattahoochee High School (1991). Roswell is currently on its third campus, which opened in 1990. The current building is the oldest in-use high school building in north Fulton.

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) preserves a series of sites between Atlanta and Lake Sidney Lanier along the Chattahoochee River, Georgia, U.S. The 48-mile (77 km) stretch of the river affords public recreation opportunities and access to historic sites. The National Recreation Area, a National Park Service unit, was established on August 15, 1978, by President Jimmy Carter.

North Springs station MARTA rail station

North Springs is an elevated metro station in Sandy Springs, Georgia, and the northern terminus for the Red Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. North Springs is primarily a commuter station for Atlanta workers and university students, featuring a large parking deck and direct access on and off State Route 400, a major highway for commuters, so that drivers can avoid surface roads. North Springs attracts commuters from Roswell, Alpharetta and other towns north on State Route 400. As the northern terminus, this station is a hub for buses that continue on north, with connecting bus services to Sandy Springs, the city of Alpharetta, North Point Mall, the city of Roswell, the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, the Mansell Road and Windward Parkway park-and-rides, and even as far north as the city of Milton. This station also provides bus assistance from North Springs High School via Route 87.

Chattahoochee Nature Center

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is a private, non-profit environmental education facility in Roswell, Georgia. Located on 127 acres (0.51 km2) adjacent to the Chattahoochee River, the nature center focuses on educational outreach through the use of live flora and fauna. The mission of the Chattahoochee Nature Center is to connect people to nature.

Capitol View, Atlanta

Capitol View is an in-town Atlanta neighborhood 2.5 miles from downtown Atlanta, Georgia that was named for its excellent view of the Georgia State Capitol building. Its boundaries include Metropolitan Parkway to the east, Lee Street to the west, and the Beltline to the north. On the south, the border follows Arden Street, Deckner Avenue, and Perkerson Park. Its central location is only minutes away from Atlanta Downtown Atlanta, Midtown Atlanta, Buckhead, College Park, East Point, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and major highways and interstates such as the Downtown Connector/I-75/I-85, I-20, and Metropolitan Parkway.

Faces of War Memorial

Faces Of War Memorial is a Vietnam War memorial located in Roswell, Georgia, USA. It is located on the grounds of Roswell City Hall and was dedicated on January 1, 1998.

There were several historic bridges around the metro Atlanta, Georgia area, for which many of its current-day roads are named. Many of them originated as ferries, dating back to the 1820s and 1830s, and carrying travelers across the Chattahoochee River and several other smaller rivers. Several were also covered bridges, very few of which remain as historic sites.

John Ripley Forbes was an American naturalist and conservationist who helped found hundreds of nature museums for children in over 200 communities and thirty states. His museums were noted for their interactivity as children could often even borrow animals.

JordanCon Fan convention dedicated to Robert Jordans The Wheel of Time

JordanCon is a North American convention held annually in Atlanta, Georgia that celebrates Robert Jordan's fantasy book series The Wheel of Time, as well as other science fiction and fantasy works. The convention is a 501c4 tax exempt charitable organization founded in honor of the late Robert Jordan.

John Albers

John Albers, is a Georgia State Senator serving the 56th District, which encompasses northern portions of Fulton County and southeastern portions of Cherokee County. This area includes all of Roswell and Mountain Park and parts of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, and Woodstock.

Avalon (Alpharetta, Georgia)

Avalon is a mixed-use development in Alpharetta, Georgia. Phase I of the 86-acre (35 ha) site includes 500,000 square feet (46,000 m2) of retail space, a 12-screen Regal Cinemas theater, 105,000 square foot of Class A office space over retail, 101 single-family residences and 250 luxury rental homes. Phase II, with additional business and residential space, opened in April 2017.

Big Creek Greenway

The Big Creek Greenway is a multi-use trail with two completed sections along Big Creek in the state of Georgia, United States. The first section begins at Big Creek Park in Roswell, GA and currently runs 8 miles (13 km) to Marconi Drive in Alpharetta. A second completed section of the trail begins in Forsyth County at McFarland Parkway and runs 11 miles (15.4 km). Once complete, the trail will be 12 feet wide and traverse the cities of Roswell, Alpharetta and Cumming.
