Premise

The protagonist and player character, Rin, is somehow shrunk down by Saeko, a female university student, to about the size of her thumb, and subsequently kidnapped. Rin later learns that Saeko, now a comparative giantess, has designated them the "supervisor" of the other people who she has shrunk down and kidnapped. Rin is tasked with watching Saeko's captives, who she has imprisoned in her desk drawer, and influencing her decisions of who to let live and who to kill for her amusement, which she does by either crushing them or swallowing them whole. [1] [2] [3]

Gameplay

Saeko is presented as a visual novel, as scenes are generally seen through the point of view of Rin, as conversations are advanced in dialogue. During the "daytime" sections of the game, Rin interacts with the other shrunken characters trapped inside Saeko's desk drawer, and may take various actions with items found inside. The player's choices alter the Health and Appeal stats of certain characters, which will influence Saeko's decision to kill them or let them live. [3] [4] [1] During the night time sections, Rin converses with Saeko in a dialogue sequence that progresses in real time, during which the player must select the correct answers in the time allotted. If the player selects an incorrect answer, takes too long to respond, or responds too frequently, Saeko becomes irritated and kills Rin, resulting in a game over. [4] [2] [5]

Development

Saeko: Giantess Dating Sim was announced in 2023 by publisher Hyper Real as in development by independent Japan-based studio Safe Havn for release on Steam in 2024. [4] [1] The game was showcased at Tokyo Game Show in 2023, [1] [6] and again in 2024, when it was chosen to be displayed at the convention's "Selected Indie 80" exhibit. [2] [7] On June 10, 2023, a demo of the game was released to coincide with Steam Next Fest. [8] [9] The game's narrative was influenced by the work of writer Shizue Fueti. [10] [4] [1]
