Sumatra is one of the Sunda Islands of western Indonesia. It is the largest island that is fully within Indonesian territory, as well as the sixth-largest island in the world at 473,481 km2 (182,812 mi.2), not including adjacent islands such as the Mentawai Islands, Enggano Island, Nias Island, Simeulue Island, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung Islands and Krakatoa archipelago.
Medan is the capital and largest city of the Indonesian province of North Sumatra. A gateway to the western part of Indonesia, Medan is supported by the Port of Belawan and Kualanamu International Airport, both of which are connected to the city centre via toll roads and railways.
North Sumatra is a province of Indonesia. It consists of a large northwestern belt of the island of Sumatra and its capital is Medan. North Sumatra is the fourth most-populous province after West Java, East Java and Central Java — it covers an area of 72,981 sq.km, and at the Census of 2015 it had a population of 13,923,262; the latest official estimate as at mid 2019 is 14,639,400.

Brunei-Muara is the northernmost district in Brunei. It is the smallest of Brunei's four districts in terms of area but by far the most populous, containing over half the country's population. It is the most important and bustling district because the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan which is also the state capital, is the seat of the government ministries and departmental headquarters as well as the centre of business activities. Other major towns in the Brunei-Muara district include Muara town. The Brunei-Muara district houses the largest and deepest port in Brunei, the Muara Port.
Padang is the capital and largest city of the Indonesian province of West Sumatra. With an estimated population of 939,112 as of 2018, it is the 16th most populous city in Indonesia and the most populous city on the west coast of Sumatra. The Padang metropolitan area is the third most populous metropolitan area in Sumatra with a population of over 1.4 million. Padang is widely known for its Minangkabau culture, cuisine, and sunset beaches.
Banda Aceh is the capital and largest city in the province of Aceh, Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra and has an elevation of 35 meters. The city covers an area of 61.4 square kilometres and had a population of 223,446 people at the 2010 Census, rising to 250,227 at the 2015 Census; the latest official estimate is 268,148.
The Trans-Sumatran Highway is a primary north–south road in the Indonesian island of Sumatra, 2,508.5 km longs, and connecting the north of the island in Banda Aceh to Bandar Lampung in the south, running through many major cities, traverse Medan city, Pekanbaru City, Jambi city, Palembang city on the way. Upgrade work is expected to begin in March, 2013 to make it a full-fledged highway, including land acquisition.
Weh Island, often known as Sabang after the largest city, is a small active volcanic island to the northwest of Sumatra, 45 minutes by fast regular ship or 2 hours by ferry from mainland, Banda Aceh. Being between Banda Aceh and the large southern city of Medan, the town is a key regional centre important for the economy of Aceh.
Pidie Regency is a regency of Aceh Special region, in Indonesia. It is located in the north of the island of Sumatra, in Western Indonesia, bordered by the Malacca Strait and Pidie Jaya Regency in the north, Aceh Besar Regency in the west, Bireuen Regency in the northeast, and Aceh Jaya Regency in the south. The regency covers an area of 3,086.95 square kilometres and according to the 2012 census had a population of 443,718 people. Pidie was the largest rice-producing area of Aceh province, producing some 20% of its total output.
North Aceh Regency is a regency in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, in Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sumatra. The regency covers an area of 3,236.86 square kilometres and according to the 2010 census had a population of 529,751; the latest official estimate is 602.554. This follows the separation in 2001 of the former capital of Lhokseumawe, which was cut out of the regency to form an independent city.

Krueng Cunda River is a river in Aceh on Sumatra island, in Indonesia, about 1700 km northwest of the capital Jakarta. It forms a strait separating the main part of Lhokseumawe from the island of Sumatra.
Trans-Sumatra Toll Road is an under-construction tolled expressway stretching across Sumatra Island in Indonesia from the northern tip of Banda Aceh to the southern tip of Bakauheni. This toll road was originally planned to be connected to the established toll road systems of Java through the now cancelled Sunda Strait Bridge. Construction of this toll road is continued with supporting corridors connecting the cities of Padang, Bengkulu, and Sibolga on the western coast of the island to the main corridors stretching across the more populated eastern coast. State construction company Hutama Karya has been given a government-granted monopoly to operate the network.
