1963–64 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup

The 1963–64 European Cup Winners' Cup was won by Sporting Clube de Portugal of Portugal, who defeated MTK Budapest of Hungary in the final. It was the first and only time a Portuguese team side has won a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup trophy. [1]

Sporting CP entered the competition to defeat Atalanta in the qualifying round, past APOEL was to the history of biggest win in UEFA competitions 16–1, Manchester United, Olympique Lyonnais and in the end defeated MTK Budapest, the same final that was played over two legs on neutral ground. Sporting Clube de Portugal win their first European title.

Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Budapest Futball Club or shortly MTK is a football club based in Józsefváros, Budapest, Hungary. The team currently plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I. The club's colours are blue and white. As one of the most successful Hungarian football clubs, MTK has won the Hungarian League 23 times and the Hungarian Cup 12 times. The club has also won the Hungarian Super Cup twice. In 1955, as Vörös Lobogó SE, they became the first Hungarian team to play in the European Cup and in 1964 they finished as runners-up in the European Cup Winners' Cup after losing to Sporting Clube de Portugal in the final. The 1963–64 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup club football tournament was won by Sporting CP in a replayed final victory against MTK Budapest.

The 1964 European Cup Winners' Cup Final was a football match contested between Sporting CP of Portugal and MTK Budapest of Hungary. The fourth European Cup Winners' Cup final, the match was played at Heysel Stadium, Brussels, ending in a 3–3 tie after extra time, and the therefore necessary replay two days later in Bosuil Stadium, Antwerp. Sporting won the replay 1–0, with a famous direct corner kick goal by João Morais.

Anselmo Fernandez Rodrigues was a Portuguese architect and football manager who led Sporting Clube de Portugal to victory in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1964 and was the architect of Sporting CP's Estádio José Alvalade inaugurated in 1956.
