According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.2 square miles (91.1 km2), of which 35.0 square miles (90.6 km2) is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km2) (0.54%) is water.
The east half of the city of Blackduck is within this township geographically but is a separate entity.
The township contains Summit Township Cemetery.
As of the census [1] of 2000, there were 259 people, 98 households, and 77 families residing in the township. The population density was 7.4 people per square mile (2.9/km2). There were 108 housing units at an average density of 3.1/sq mi (1.2/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 98.46% White, 0.39% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.39% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.
There were 98 households, out of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.5% were married couples living together, 1.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% were non-families. 19.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the township the population was spread out, with 22.8% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
