The Switch E1 (stylised as the SWITCH e1) is a low-floor single-decker electric bus produced by Switch Mobility since 2022. [1] The E1 is the first vehicle to be introduced by Switch Mobility since their rebranding from Optare, and replaces the discontinued Optare Tempo SR and Optare Versa in their product range.

The E1 was unveiled on 7 June 2022 at the European Mobility Expo at the Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France. The interior features a highly customisable modular design, similarly to the competing Arrival Bus, with two or three doors and a maximum of 30 seats. Total passenger capacity is up to 93 passengers per bus, with capacity for 63 standing. [2] Each seat can be fitted with reading lights, USB phone charging ports and under-seat lights, with wide-screen monitors fitted throughout the cabin to display next stops and other information. [2] Wheelchair access is available through both the front and middle doors, with wheelchair bays optionally fitted opposite either or both. [2]

The E1 was known during development as Project Odin generation 4; further Project Odin models are expected to launch later in 2022. [3] According to Switch Mobility, the E1 is the lightest electric bus on the market. [3] Fast charging is available, with a full charge in three hours possible through DC charging; [3] total range on a full charge is expected to be around 390 kilometres (240 mi). [4] At launch, the E1 was aimed at the continental European market, [2] with the Optare MetroCity EV still to be constructed for the United Kingdom. [5] The E1 will be the first model to be produced at Switch Mobility's newly constructed carbon neutral manufacturing facility in Valladolid, Spain, commencing with two production lines dedicated to the E1; [4] additional construction will take place at the existing former Optare factory in Sherburn in Elmet, Yorkshire. In the past, the Sprinter had been sold under the Mercedes-Benz, Dodge, and Freightliner nameplates. In the U.S., it was built from complete knock down (CKD) kits by Freightliner. Re-badged and re-engined Sprinters were also sold by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles as the Volkswagen LT and the Volkswagen Crafter. They are now primarily marketed by Mercedes-Benz.

Switch Mobility is an British bus manufacturer based in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire. It is a subsidiary of Indian company Ashok Leyland. The company is responsible for the EV operations of the group with Ashok Leyland focusing on its core business of diesel-powered vehicles as well as work on alternative fuels like compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen.

The Switch Solo is a low-floor minibus/midibus with one or two doors manufactured by Switch Mobility in the United Kingdom since 1998. The Solo name is a play on its low-floor status, the manufacturer marketing its vehicle as having an entrance that is "so low" from the floor, namely 200 mm (8 in) with kneeling suspension. In January 2012 Optare announced the end of production for the original Solo design with a modified Solo SR taking over.

The Alexander Dennis Enviro200 is a midibus that was manufactured by TransBus International and later Alexander Dennis between 2003 and 2018. The original TransBus Enviro200 design was innovative but ultimately unsuccessful, with few being sold before the introduction of the second generation Enviro200 revived sales for the product from 2006. It was supposed to be positioned in between a minibus and a rigid single-decker bus.

The Optare Tempo is an integral low-floor, heavy duty, full-size rigid single-deck bus manufactured by Optare and was launched in late 2004. It is marketed and sold as the replacement for the Optare Excel. It is designed as a lightweight bus, to use less fuel than traditional heavy duty integral rigids. As of July 2017, 233 had been built, including 27 Tempo SRs. The Tempo SR has now been replaced in the UK market by longer variants of the Optare MetroCity, although production of the Tempo SR continues for the Australian market.

The Switch Metrocity is an integral midibus manufactured by Switch Mobility since 2013. Originally aimed at the London market, the Metrocity is based on the Optare Versa which was introduced in 2009. In the UK market, longer variants of the Metrocity have replaced the Optare Tempo SR. As at August 2018, over 250 had been built.

The Switch Metrodecker is an integral twin-axle double-decker bus produced by British bus manufacturer Switch Mobility since 2014. The bus bears resemblance to the Switch Metrocity, sharing similar interior and exterior features. The MetroDecker was designed as the successor to the Optare Olympus and Scania OmniDekka double-deckers, which were both discontinued in 2011, however unlike these, the MetroDecker is only available in integral form.

Mellor Coachcraft, known simply as Mellor or Mellor Bus, is a British bus manufacturer based in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. Founded in the 1960s, Mellor has primarily produced bodywork for various different minibus chassis throughout its history. Mellor is owned by parent company, Woodall Nicholson Group, alongside Treka Bus.
