Ta Kwu Ling is an area in the North District,New Territories,Hong Kong,located northeast of Sheung Shui,close to the border with mainland China and south to Liantang Subdistrict in Shenzhen.
Before 4 January 2016,parts of Ta Kwu Ling fell within the Frontier Closed Area and a Closed Area Permit was required.
Ta Kwu Ling is one of three new development areas currently being planned for North District,in parallel with Fanling North and Kwu Tung North. [1] [ needs update ]
For electoral purposes,Ta Kwu Ling is part of the Sha Ta constituency of the North District Council. It is currently represented by Ko Wai-kei,who was elected in the local elections. [2] [3]

One of the three strategic landfills in use in Hong Kong is located in Ta Kwu Ling. [5]
Ta Ku Ling is in Primary One Admission (POA) School Net 81. Within the school net are multiple aided schools (operated independently but funded with government money); no government schools are in the net. [6]
Ta Ku Ling Ying Public School (打鼓嶺嶺英公立學校) is in Ta Kwu Ling. In 2013 it had one class per year, but it was scheduled to have four primary 1 classes with a total of 128 students the following year. In 2013 the school was receiving an expansion including classrooms, a library, and a teachers' room due to an increase in students who are Hong Kong residents living in Shenzhen. [7]
The area is far from its nearest major road, Sha Tau Kok Road, connecting Fanling to Sha Tau Kok. Branch roads connect to the major road via the Ping Che area in the south.
The name of Ta Kwu Ling is frequently heard in weather reports, since it often experiences the highest and lowest daily temperatures in Hong Kong, due to its inland location. Temperatures near 0 °C (32 °F) occur once every few years, while daily minimum temperatures of 5 °C (41 °F) or less are common during winter.

North District is the northernmost district of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in the northeastern part of the New Territories. The new town of Fanling–Sheung Shui is within this district. It had a population of 298,657 in 2001. The district has the second lowest population density in Hong Kong.
Most of the walled villages of Hong Kong are located in the New Territories.

Muk Wu Village is a Punti walled village in Ta Kwu Ling, in the north of the New Territories across the Man Kam To border crossing point in Hong Kong.
Shap Pat Heung is an area in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Located south of Yuen Long and northeast of Tai Tong, the area occupies the plain north of hills of Tai Lam. The Cantonese name 'Shap Pat Heung' means 'eighteen villages' at its beginning. It was later expanded to thirty villages. Administratively, it is part of the Yuen Long District.

The North District Council is one of the 18 Hong Kong district councils and represents the North District. It is one of 18 such councils. Consisting of 24 members, the district council is drawn from two constituencies, which elect 4 members, along with 8 district committee members, 8 appointed members, and four ex officio members who are the Ta Kwu Ling, Sheung Shui, Sha Tau Kok and Fanling rural committee chairmen. The latest election was held on 10 December 2023.
The Hong Kong government started developing new towns in the 1950s to accommodate Hong Kong's booming population. During the first phase of development, the newly developed towns were called "satellite towns", a concept borrowed from the United Kingdom, of which Hong Kong was a colony. Kwun Tong, located in eastern Kowloon, and Tsuen Wan, located in the south-west of the New Territories, were designated as the first satellite towns, when the urban area in Hong Kong was still relatively small, restricted to the central and western parts of Kowloon Peninsula and the northern side of Hong Kong Island. Wah Fu Estate was also built in a remote corner on the southern side of Hong Kong Island, with similar concepts but at a smaller scale.
Heung Yuen Wai Control Point is a land border control point at the border at Heung Yuen Wai in North District, New Territories, Hong Kong. Its counterpart across the border is Liantang Port in Shenzhen, Guangdong. The control point opened for freight trucks on 26 August 2020 and to passengers since 6 February 2023.
The Nine Alliances of Lek Yuen or Kau Yeuk was a regional organization of various groups in Sha Tin Valley, Hong Kong.
