A bird hybrid is a bird that has two different species as parents. The resulting bird can present with any combination of characteristics from the parent species, from totally identical to completely different. Usually, the bird hybrid shows intermediate characteristics between the two species. A "successful" hybrid is one demonstrated to produce fertile offspring. According to the most recent estimates, about 16% of all wild bird species have been known to hybridize with one another; this number increases to 22% when captive hybrids are taken into account. Several bird species hybridize with multiple other species. For example, the mallard is known to interbreed with at least 40 different species. The ecological and evolutionary consequences of multispecies hybridization remain to be determined.

Ripiphoridae is a cosmopolitan family of some 450 described species of beetles sometimes called "wedge-shaped beetles". Ripiphoridae are unusual among beetle families in that many species are hypermetamorphic parasitoids, an attribute that they share with the Meloidae. Members of the family differ in their choice of hosts, but most attack various species of bees or wasps, while some others attack cockroaches or beetles. Many species of Ripiphoridae have abbreviated elytra, and flabellate or pectinate antennae.

Tachysphex pompiliformis Species of wasp

Tachysphex pompiliformis is a species of square-headed wasp in the family Crabronidae. The limits of the species were redefined in 2016, when it was recognized that the name pompiliformis had been misapplied to at least 14 very similar species, some of which had already been named, and others which had not; of 16 former synonyms of pompiliformis, four were restored to species status, and the status of the remainder is uncertain. As such, the distribution of this taxon is somewhat uncertain, pending a rigorous review of existing specimens, though it has been definitively confirmed as occurring in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Turkey, while pompiliformis specimens reported from other locations most likely represent other species.
