Theri is the soundtrack album composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar for the 2016 Tamil action film of the same name, written and directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by S. Thanu, starring Vijay. Pulamaipithan, Na. Muthukumar, Pa. Vijay, Kabilan, Rokesh, R. Thiyagarajan and Arunraja Kamaraj wrote the lyrics for the songs. The album was launched on 20 March 2016, and received positive reviews from critics. [1] [2]
This film marks the second collaboration of G. V. Prakash Kumar with both Atlee and Vijay, after Raja Rani and Thalaivaa . [3] In addition, the album also marked Prakash's 50th film as a music composer. [4] In November 2014, During the pre-production phase, Prakash started working on the film's music soon after his inclusion in the project. [5] Both the composer and director went to Russia for a music composing session in the end of November. [6] In March 2015, the duo also went to Goa and continued the music sessions. [7] Prakash further revealed in his micro-blogging page saying that all the tracks in the album are "trend-setting". [8]
In April 2015, Uthara Unnikrishnan, daughter of playback singer P. Unnikrishnan, reportedly sung for one of the tracks in the film. [9] This marked her second collaboration with Prakash, after her debut song "Azhagu" from Saivam (2014), composed by Prakash, which fetched her a National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer. [10] [11] In June 2015, Prakash recorded an introductory song with veteran composer Deva (later deciphered as "Jithu Jilladi"), [12] with Rokesh writing the lyrics. [13] It was said to be a "thara-local" number and the shooting for the song began during July 2015. [14] It was rumoured that A. R. Rahman would also sing one of the tracks for the film, which did not materialize. [15]
In mid-October 2015, the team reported that a glimpse of the opening track will be released on 17 October. [16] [17] But Prakash Kumar dismissed that the song would be revealed only after announcing the film's title. [18] By late-October, Vijay recorded the song which was titled "Chella Kutti" along with Neeti Mohan. [19] [20] By January 2016, work on all the songs has been completed. [21] G. V. Prakash started working on the re-recording of the background score in mid-February and completed within April 2016. [22]
In February 2016, a song titled "En Jeevan" was recorded with the singers Hariharan and Saindhavi. [23] The song also has Sanskrit verses sung by Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, and written by L. Anandhan, a Sanskrit teacher at Modern Senior Secondary School, Chennai. [24] Prakash sung the alternate version featured in the film. [23] A rap number titled "Dub Theri Step" was recorded within March 2016, which was written and sung by Arunraja Kamaraj. [25] [26] Actor-director T. Rajendar has also recorded one song for the film. The audio rights of the film, were acquired by Think Music. [28] By early-March 2016, the makers confirmed that the audio would be released on 20 March 2016. [29] [30] G. V. Prakash handed the master copy of the film's music album to the producer, days prior to the launch. [31] The track list of the film released on 17 March 2016. [32] [33] The audio launch event took place Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai with Vijay, director Atlee, composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, producer Thanu and other film's cast and crew attended the event. [34] [35] The event was telecasted on Star Vijay on 3 April 2016. [36]
Besides the album having seven songs, an eight track was added as a supplementary for the film on 31 March 2016. [37] It was completed within eight days and was released on 10 April 2016. [38] The song titled "Hey Aasman" is sung by Yash Golcha, and featured Hindi lyrics written by Vishal Chandrashekhar. [39]

Behindwoods gave the album a rating of 3.25 out of 5, stating that "GV Prakash and Atlee combination after a very successful outing in Raja Rani have shown that they are an addition to musically successful director-music director pair with Theri" and gave a verdict "An amalgamation of some mass and class tunes, tailor made for Vijay". [41] Sify gave the album a rating of 4 out of 5, and summarised it as "Commercial cocktail in store for both Vijay & GV's fans!" [43] Indiaglitz gave the album a rating of 3.75 out of 5 further stating it as "a must have in everyone's playlist". [45] BollywoodLife rated with 3.5 out of 5, stars with a statement "GV Prakash delivers an impressive, dynamic album that Vijay fans will really enjoy" and further wrote "Each song is fantastic in its own right. But as an album it is very consistent, which at the same time gives some much needed variation at the right time to keep things interesting." [44] Moviecrow gave 2.75 out of 5 saying "GV Prakash and Atlee try to deliver a fun and entertaining album to satiate Vijay fans, and have just managed to do it". G. V. Prakash Kumar is an Indian music composer, playback singer, actor, and film producer known for his work in Tamil cinema. His first film was S Pictures' Veyil (2006) and he gained fame in Tamil films by the early 2010s. He made his debut in acting on 2015 through Darling. He has won one National Award, three Filmfare Awards and three SIIMA Awards in his film career.
Raja Rani is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy drama film directed by Atlee in his directorial debut. Produced by AR Murugadoss, the film stars Arya, Jai, Nayanthara and Nazriya Nazim, while Sathyaraj, Santhanam, Sathyan appear in supporting roles.
Thalaivaa is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by A. L. Vijay and produced by Vendhar Movies. The film stars Vijay in the titular role, alongside Ragini Nandwani, Amala Paul, Sathyaraj, Santhanam, Abhimanyu Singh, Nassar and Rajeev Pillai. In the film, a dancer in Australia takes over his father's duty as a crime boss in Mumbai after his death.
Jilla is the soundtrack album of the 2014 Tamil film of the same name directed by T. Nesan starring Mohanlal, Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal. The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by D. Imman which marks his first collaboration with Mohanlal and Nesan and his second collaboration with Vijay after the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan. The soundtrack consists of 6 Tracks and 2 Karaoke Tracks whose lyrics were written by Yugabharathi, Vairamuthu and Viveka. Vijay along with Shreya Ghoshal crooned for the song Kandangi Kandangi. Saivam (transl. Vegetarianism) is a 2014 Indian Tamil-language drama film written, directed and produced by A. L. Vijay. The film features Nassar in the lead role and child actress Sara Arjun plays another pivotal role. The film's cinematography was handled by Nirav Shah and music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The film was released on 27 June 2014 to positive reviews. The film was remade in Telugu as Dagudumootha Dandakor (2015), with Sara Arjun reprising her role from the original film.
Kaththi is the soundtrack album composed by Anirudh Ravichander, for the 2014 Tamil film of the same name. The film, directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced by Lyca Productions, stars Vijay in dual roles, with Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Sathish. This film marks the first collaboration of Anirudh with Vijay and A. R. Murugadoss. He composed the film's theme music before signing the project, and started recording the album in late-2013 which was continued till September 2014.

L. Vijay. She received the award at the age of 10, becoming its youngest recipient.

It stars Ajith Kumar and Lakshmi Menon while Shruti Hassan, Ashwin Kakumanu, Rahul Dev, Thambi Ramaiah, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Soori play supporting roles. The film features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while the cinematography and editing were done by Vetri and Ruben.
Enakku Innoru Per Irukku is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language mafia comedy film directed by Sam Anton starring G. V. Prakash Kumar and Anandhi in the lead roles. Produced by Subaskaran Allirajah, who is from Lyca Productions, the film began production during December 2015 and ended in March 2016. It was released on 17 June 2016.
Mersal (transl. Zapped) is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Atlee and produced by Thenandal Studio Limited, in the studio's hundredth film production. The film stars Vijay in triple roles, alongside S. J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen. Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Hareesh Peradi, Kovai Sarala and Sathyan play supporting roles. It is the second out of the three collaboration between Vijay and Atlee, before they began working with others. The film follows two brothers who were separated after the younger one's birth; Vetri, a vigilante magician who is against the medical crimes and Maaran, a reputed doctor who charges meagre amounts from his patients.
Uttama Villain is the soundtrack album composed by Ghibran, for the 2015 Tamil film of the same name directed by Ramesh Aravind. The film stars Kamal Haasan in the leading role, who also wrote the script and co-produced the film under the banner Raaj Kamal Films International, alongside Thirrupathi Brothers and Eros International. The film marks Ghibran's first collaboration with Kamal Haasan for the first time. The soundtrack album featured seventeen tracks in total; having seven songs, karaoke versions for three of the tracks and seven instrumental compositions from the film score.

Aadukalam (transl. Playground) is the soundtrack album for the Tamil film of the same name directed by Vetrimaaran. The film featured music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar in his second collaboration with Vetrimaaran and Dhanush after Polladhavan (2007), and its soundtrack album features seven tracks; four songs, two rap numbers and an instrumental. Lyrics for the songs were written by Snehan, Ekadesi, Yugabharathi, V. I. S. Jayapalan and Yogi B. The album distributed by Sony Music India was released on 1 December 2010.
Mersal is the soundtrack of the 2017 Indian vigilante action film of the same name directed by Atlee, which stars Vijay in a triple role with Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha as the female leads. The film, which marked the 100th production of Thenandal Studio Limited, has a soundtrack album features four tracks composed by A. R. Rahman, in his first collaboration with Atlee and his third collaboration with Vijay after composing for Udhaya (2004) and Azhagiya Tamizh Magan (2007), whilst Vivek penned the lyrics for all the songs in the film's soundtrack, also in his first association with Rahman.
"Verithanam" (transl. Frenzy) is an Indian Tamil-language song from the 2019 sports action film Bigil directed by Atlee. Composed by A. R. Rahman, the song featured lyrics written by Vivek and sung by actor Vijay, who also played the protagonist in the film. It is the first song Vijay has recorded for Rahman. The song was released by Sony Music India on 1 September 2019, and its video version was unveiled on 1 November.
Asuran (transl. Demon) is the soundtrack album composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar for the 2019 Indian Tamil-language film of the same name written and directed by Vetrimaaran, which stars Dhanush and Manju Warrier. The soundtrack album which had seven songs written by Ekadesi, Yugabharathi, Eknath and Arunraja Kamaraj, was consisted to be a mix of raw folk elements with the approach of international music and had begun production during March 2019 and completed within that August. The soundtrack album was launched on 2 September 2019, at Prasad Studios in Chennai, with a simultaneous release through YouTube and digital platforms. The album received mostly positive reviews from critics and audience and fetched accolades at various ceremonies.
