Ukraine were one of the twenty-four participating countries and regions competing in the first Turkvision that took place between 17 and 21 December 2013. [1]

History

2013

Ukraine made their debut in the Turkvision Song Contest at the 2013 contest, in Eskişehir, Turkey. [1] Fazile Ibraimova was selected internally to represent Ukraine in Turkey, she sang "Elmalim". Crimea Media Production was in charge of Ukrainian participation in the 2013 contest. [2] After the contest it emerged that Fazile had performed a song previously released by another artist. [3]

2014

On 30 September 2014 Ukraine confirmed their participation in the 2014 contest. The broadcaster in charge of Ukrainian participation in 2014 changed to ODTRK Odesa. [4] On 6 November 2014, Natali Deniz was announced as the Ukrainian participant, she is part of the Gagauz minority in Ukraine, [5] it was announced on 16 November 2014 she would sing "Sän Benim". [6]

Ukraine's 2015 participation was confirmed on 20 February 2015. [7]

2020

After originally being slated to represent Ukraine with the same song in 2016, Ukrainian Gagauz singer Natalie Papazoglu competed at the 2020 contest with the song "Tikenli yol." She performed 15th on the night of the contest, following Khakassia and preceding Serbia. As it turned out, the wait was worth it: Ukraine won the competition with 226 points, scoring Ukraine's first ever Turkvision victory.

The Turkvision Song Contest, also known as the Türkvizyon Song Contest, has been a recurring song contest created by Turkish music channel TMB TV, inspired by the format of the Eurovision Song Contest. The first edition took place in Eskişehir, Turkey in December 2013. Countries and regions which were Turkic-speaking and of Turkic ethnicity are eligible to participate in the song contest. The contest was last held on 20 December 2020 as an online event hosted from Istanbul, Turkey. Several cancellations followed, and the future of the Turkvision Song Contest remains uncertain.

The participation of the Altai Republic in the Turkvision Song Contest first began at the inaugural Turkvision Song Contest, in Eskişehir, Turkey, in 2013. STRC Altai Mountains, a network owned by All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), have been responsible for the selection process of their participants, since their debut in 2013. Artur Marlujokov was the first representative for the Altai Republic at the Turkvision Song Contest 2013 with the song "Altayym Menin", which qualified from the semifinals, and finished in fifth place, achieving one-hundred and eighty-nine points in the grand final.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Azerbaijan in the Turkvision Song Contest</span>

The participation of Azerbaijan in the Turkvision Song Contest first began in Eskişehir, Turkey, at the inaugural edition of the Turkvision Song Contest in 2013. Azad Azerbaijan TV (ATV) have been responsible for the selection process of their participants, since their debut in 2013. Farid Hasanov was the first representative for Azerbaijan at the Turkvision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Yaşa", which qualified from the semifinals and won the contest, achieving two-hundred and ten points in the grand final. Azerbaijan continued to participate in the contest, and sent Elvin Ordubadli as their representative in the Turkvision Song Contest 2014, with the song "Divlərin yalnızlığı", which finished in ninth place, achieving 177 points in the grand final.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bashkortostan in the Turkvision Song Contest</span>

Bashkortostan has participated in the Turkvision Song Contest twice since its debut in 2013. The Bashkir broadcaster, Kuray Television (KTV),was the organiser of the Bashkir entry from 2013 to 2014, in 2015 Tugan Tel TV replaced Kuray Television. In 2013, Bashkortostan's first entry at Turkvision, Diana Ishniyazova, failed to qualify to the grand final.

Belarus has participated in the Turkvision Song Contest 3 times since its debut in 2013. Details regarding the Belarusian broadcaster which organises Belarus' entry are unknown. In 2013, Belarus' first entry at Turkvision, Gunesh Abasova, qualified from the semi-final, and placed 2nd in the final achieving 205 points.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Turkvision Song Contest</span>

Bosnia and Herzegovina has participated in the Turkvision Song Contest four times since its debut in 2013. The Bosnian broadcaster, Hayat TV, has been the organiser of the Bosnian entry since its debut in the contest. In 2013, the Bosnian entry, Ters Bosanka, qualified to the grand final, where they finished in sixth place with a score of 187 points.

Crimea has participated in the Turkvision Song Contest twice since its debut in 2013. The Crimean broadcaster, Crimea Public Radio and Television (CPRT), has been the organiser for the Crimean entry since its debut in the contest. In 2013, Crimea's first entry at Turkvision, Elvira Sarihalil, failed to qualify for the grand final.

In 2013, Georgia's first entry at Turkvision, Eynar Balakişiyev and Afik Novruzov, failed to qualify for the grand final, as well as the 2014 entry, which actually came last at the semi-final in Kazan, Tatarstan.

Germany participated in the Turkvision Song Contest for the first time at the Turkvision Song Contest 2014 to be held in Kazan, Tatarstan. The German broadcaster, Türkshow Televizyonu were the organisers of the debut German entry.

Albania has participated in the Turkvision Song Contest 3 times since their debut in the 2014 contest in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia. Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) have been responsible for the selection process of their participants since their debut in 2014. Xhoi Bejko was the first representative for Albania at the Turkvision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Hava ve Ates", which failed to qualify from the semi-finals, finishing in nineteenth place and achieving 154 points. Albania continued to participate in the contest, and sent Xhoi Bejko and Visar Rexhepi as their representatives in the Turkvision Song Contest 2015, with the song "Adi Hasret", which finished in eighth place, receiving the same total of points as in their previous participation.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Russia in the Turkvision Song Contest</span>

The debut of Russia in the Turkvision Song Contest was originally announced as taking place at the Turkvision Song Contest 2013. However, upon the publication of the finalised participation list, Russia no longer appeared as taking part. Although, several Federal subjects of Russia, have competed in the Turkvision Song Contest ever since its inaugural contest in 2013.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Turkvision Song Contest 2015</span> 3rd Turkvision Song Contest

The Turkvision Song Contest 2015 was the third edition of the Turkvision Song Contest, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey; and organised by Turkish Music Box Television (TMB). A total of twenty-one Turkic regions, which have either a large Turkic population or a widely spoken Turkic language, participated in the contest, as well as one Turkic ethnic groups who do not have a defined region. There was no semi-final this year, whilst the final took place on 19 December 2015.

Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2015 was the first edition of the Bala Turkvision Song Contest. It was initially scheduled to take place in Mary, Turkmenistan, however, it was moved to Istanbul, Turkey. The contest is the junior equivalent of the Turkvision Song Contest; similar to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest being the younger equivalent of the Eurovision Song Contest.

<i>Bala Turkvision Song Contest</i> Former annual song contest

Bala Turkvision Song Contest, also known as Bala Türkvizyon Song Contest in English, was intended to be an annual song contest, inspired by the format of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The contest was open to countries and regions which are Turkic-speaking and of Turkic ethnicity, and songs had to be in the respective country's national language. The first and only contest was held in Turkey in 2015, with both the 2016 and 2017 contests subsequently canceled.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Serbia in the Turkvision Song Contest</span>

Serbia has participated in the Turkvision Song Contest four times, 2 times as Kosovo, 1 as Sandžak/Serbia and once as Serbia: in the 2015 contest, held in Istanbul, Turkey. Raška region (Sandžak) and Kosovo participated in this competition for Serbia until 2015, from 2020 Serbia participates only as Serbia. Serbian broadcaster RTV Novi Pazar is responsible for Serbia's participation in the contest.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Turkvision Song Contest 2020</span> 4th Turkvision Song Contest

The Turkvision Song Contest 2020 was the fourth edition of the Turkvision Song Contest. It took place in Istanbul, Turkey, with performances filmed remotely, and organised by Turkish Music Box Television.

Turkey participated in the Turkvision Song Contest 2014 in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia. Turkish broadcaster TRT Avaz was responsible for the country's participation in the contest. The song "Hoppa", performed by Funda Kılıç, was internally selected as the Turkish entry for the contest. The song qualified from the semi-final and placed 15th (last) in the final.

Natalie Papazoglu is a Gagauz-Ukrainian singer-songwriter. She participated in season 6 of the Ukrainian X-Factor, and won the Turkvision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Tikenli yol", representing Ukraine.
