Ollur is a major suburban area and an old commercial town in the city of Thrissur of Kerala state, South India. It is situated about 5 km away from Swaraj Round on old National Highway 47 (India) towards Kochi. From ancient time onwards, Ollur was a major business centre in Thrissur district. Now, this geographical area is part of Thrissur Municipal Corporation. It is situated between Kuriachira and Thalore on the National Highway. However, a specific identity for this geographical region is still there due to the urban setting of this region and its important religious institutions.

Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala (Oushada means medicine and sala is a building or institute) was instituted in 1941 by Ashtavaidya E T Neelakandan Moose. He had won prestigious Padmasree award for his contributions to Ayurveda treatment. [2] [3] Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Nursing Home was started in the year 1955 and Ayurvedic Medical College in 1976. Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College is Ayurveda college situated in Thaikkattussery near Ollur, Thrissur City of Kerala state. The college is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences and offers B.A.M.S. degree. The course is recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) and is of a duration of 5½ years and 12 months compulsory rotatory internship.Students are admitted for the BAMS course from the list of medical entrance examination conducted by the Government of Kerala. The present intake for the degree programme is 40 students.
Vaidyaratnam P. S. Varier (1869–1944) was an Ayurvedic physician from Kerala, India. He is well-regarded as the founder of Kottakkal Arya Vaidyasala, a major Ayurvedic treatment centre in Kerala.
Eledath Thaikkattu Narayanan Mooss a.k.a. E. T. Narayanan Mooss is an Ayurvedic physician and the Chief Physician and Managing Partner of Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010 for his contribution to the field of medicine specific to Ayurveda.

Eledath Thaikkattu Neelakandan Mooss or E.T.Neelakandan Mooss (1904-1997) was an Ayurvedic physician and the founder of Vaidyaratnam Group.
Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Museum is a museum showcasing the richness, the variety and the evolution of the Ayurveda traditional medicine of India. The museum is located in Thaikkattussery, near Ollur in Thrissur in Kerala, India. The museum was inaugurated by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, on 28 December 2013. The exhibits include a diorama presentation of the history of Ayurveda from mythological period to modern times, a library of texts on Ayurveda, descriptions of various branches of Ayurveda, an exclusive section on Susrutha, a picture gallery, a 3-D gallery, and a digital library.
Gabriel Chiramel was an Indian Syro-Malabar Catholic Roman Catholic priest, educationist, zoologist, author and social reformer, known for his services in the fields of education, health and human welfare. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2007 by the Government of India for his contribution to education and literature.
J. Hareendran Nair is an Indian Ayurveda physician and entrepreneur from Kerala. He is the founder of Pankajakasthuri group of enterprises, a business group which has contributed in promoting and popularising Ayurveda and ayurvedic products across the country. The Government of India, in 2012, honoured him with Padma Shri for his services to the cause of Ayurveda.
Rajagopalan Krishnan Vaidyan was an Indian ayurvedic physician from the Indian state of Kerala and the president of the Association of Ayurvedic Physicians of Kerala. He was born in a family of traditional physicians to M. P. Krishnan Vaidyan and P. Kalyanikutty Amma, both practitioners of Ayurveda, and is a graduate of modern medicine (MBBS) and Ayurvedic medicine (DAM), which he passed with first rank from the Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram. He is associated with many healthcare institutions in Kerala such as Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur, Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal, Ayurveda Pharmacy, Aluva and Ayurveda Samajam Hospitals, located at Thiruvananthapuram and Shornur, either as a consultant or as an advisor. Krishnan, who started his career at his family clinic and later worked at the Panchakarma Clinic in Cheruthuruthi, maintains his practice at his clinic in Kollam. He is an examiner of ayurvedic courses conducted by University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, University of Madras and Bharathiar University and works as the Dean of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit. He is also a member of the Central Council of Indian Medicine and an advisor on Indian medicine to the Government of Kerala. He is a recipient of Bhrihatrayee Ratna (1977) and Vaidya Vachaspati awards and has received the Fellowship from the Government of India. He was honored by the Government of India, again in 2003, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri.

An Ashtavaidya is a practitioner of the Ayurveda system of medicine belonging to a certain select group of families in the Indian state of Kerala. Among the Ayurvedic healers of Kerala, the Ashtavaidyas are the Brahmin scholar physicians who are masters of the eight branches of Ayurveda mentioned in classical texts. It was this expertise in the eight branches that earned them the epithet of ashtavaidya. These branches are dealt with in detail in the treatise Ashtānga Hridayam one of the primary texts of Ayurveda. The eight branches of Ayurveda are Kaya, Bala, Graha, Urdhvanga, Shalya, Damshtra (toxicology, Jara and Vrisha.
