Thrissur is one of the six major cities in the state of Kerala, India. Thrissur city, being home to several cultural, literary and other institutions like Kerala Sahitya Academy and Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy is nicknamed the Cultural Capital of Kerala. The City is also home to several monuments having great historical significance. The City is also associated with several rulers of the erstwhile Kingdom of Cochin.

Varavoor, a residential village in Thrissur district is in the state of Kerala, India. It is widely believed that this village was situated on the banks of Bharathapuzha during prehistoric times. Shrinking of the river over several millennia of human settlements has moved the village more distant from its banks. It is surrounded by small green hills and is 30 mins drive away from the cultural capital of Kerala. Varavoor was declared "litigation-free" village on 7 May 2000. Climatic conditions in and around Varavoor varies around the year. The well-known Palakkal Pooram is usually held in the month of February welcoming tourists from different parts of the country. During the month of February, paddy fields surrounding the Palakkal temple is usually fallow after harvest.

Ramavarmapuram is the northern suburb of Thrissur City in Kerala. This suburban area is home to several governmental and other institutions of national importance. The largest menhir type megalithic monument in granite in Kerala is found here. A local catholic church has recently been adorned with mural paintings in the traditional Kerala style. This is the first instance of such a church decoration in Kerala in modern times.

Thekkinkadu Maidanam is a historic open ground located in the center of Thrissur city in the Kerala state of India. The 65-acre area surrounds the ancient Vadakkunnathan Temple, one of the most significant Shiva temples in Kerala, and is a vital cultural and historical landmark. The maidan is under the management of the Cochin Devaswom Board and plays host to a variety of public events, including the famous Thrissur Pooram, one of the largest temple festivals in Kerala, often referred to as the "Mother of all Poorams."

The Thrissur Municipal Corporation is the civic body that governs Thrissur city in Kerala, India. It is the third largest city Corporation in the state of Kerala by area and fourth largest in population. Established as a Municipality since 1921 under the Cochin Municipal Regulations, it is responsible for civic infrastructure and administration; the distribution of electricity and water for Thrissur city. The Corporation manages 101.42 km of Thrissur city limits of through 55 wards through five zones Ayyanthole, Vilvattom, Ollukkara, Ollur and Koorkanchery. Thrissur Municipal Corporation has been formed with functions to improve the infrastructure of town.

Kolazhy Grama Panchayat, also known as Kolazhy GP, is part of Puzhakkal block, in Thrissur taluk, in Thrissur district. It is located 6.8 kilometres (4.2 mi) north of Thrissur city. The group of villages forming the wards given in the table below are governed by Kolazhy Grama Panchayat, Puzhakkal Block Panchayat and Thrissur District Panchayat.

Elections to local bodies in Kerala were held in two phrases, on 2 and 5 November 2015. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won more than half of all gram panchayats and municipalities, and both they and the United Democratic Front (UDF) won majorities in seven out of fourteen district panchayats each. The LDF also won mayorship in four corporations and the UDF in two.

Elections to local bodies in Kerala were held in December 2020. Polling took place over 3 days; on 8, 10 and 14 December, with the votes counted and results announced on 16 December.
