Northtown Mall opened at Waimataitai in the 1970s. [2] It was upgraded in 2016, and includes a Pak'nSave supermarket. [3]

A number of chain stores have their Timaru branches at Waimataitai, including Briscoes, and Supercheap Auto. There are a number of fast food outlets in the area, including McDonald's, KFC, Domino's Pizza and Pizza Hut.

Timaru City in Canterbury, New Zealand

Timaru is a port city in the southern Canterbury region of New Zealand, located 157 kilometres (98 mi) southwest of Christchurch and about 196 kilometres (122 mi) northeast of Dunedin on the eastern Pacific coast of the South Island. The Timaru urban area is home to 28,700 people, and is the largest urban area in South Canterbury, and the second largest in the Canterbury Region overall, after Christchurch. The town is the seat of the Timaru District, which includes the surrounding rural area and the towns of Geraldine, Pleasant Point and Temuka, which combined have a total population of 48,400.

Geraldine is a town in the Canterbury region in the South Island of New Zealand. It is about 140 km south of Christchurch, and inland from Timaru, which is 35 km to the south. Geraldine is located on State Highway 79 between the Orari and Hae Hae Te Moana Rivers.

The Hanan Shield is one of the most prestigious trophies in New Zealand's domestic rugby union competition. First played for in 1946 after being presented by the Mayor of Timaru, A.E.S. Hanan. The Hanan Shield is based on a challenge system played between North Otago, South Canterbury and Mid Canterbury. The holding union must defend the shield in challenge matches, and if a challenger defeats them, they become the new holder of the shield. A rules change at the end of the 2011 season meant that the shield is up for challenge in any meeting between the holders and one of the other two teams.

South Canterbury

South Canterbury is the name given semi-formally to the area of the Canterbury Region of the South Island of New Zealand bounded by the Rangitata River in the north and the Waitaki River to the south. The Pacific Ocean and ridge of the Southern Alps form natural boundaries to the east and west respectively. Though the exact boundaries of the region have never been formalised, the term is used for a variety of government agencies and other entities. It is one of four traditional sub-regions of Canterbury, along with Mid-Canterbury, North Canterbury, and Christchurch city.

Aoraki Polytechnic was a public New Zealand tertiary education institution. Aoraki Polytechnic's main campus was based in central Timaru, South Canterbury, South Island. It also had campuses offering a variety of programmes in Ashburton, Oamaru, Christchurch and Dunedin. In March 2016, Aoraki Polytechnic merged with the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology to form Ara Institute of Canterbury.

Allan Hubbard (businessman)

Allan James Hubbard, QSO was a businessman who lived in Timaru in the South Island of New Zealand and was the founder of South Canterbury Finance, New Zealand's largest locally owned finance company. In 2006, the New Zealand Listener described Hubbard as the most powerful businessman in the South Island.

The 2016 New Zealand local elections were triennial local elections to select local government officials and District Health Board members. Under section 10 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, a "general election of members of every local authority or community board must be held on the second Saturday in October in every third year" from the date the Act came into effect in 2001, meaning 8 October 2016.

Pleasant Valley is a small locality near the town of Geraldine in the Canterbury Region of the South Island of New Zealand. The area is boarded by the Geraldine Downs to the north and Gapes Valley to the south. The Hae Hae Te Moana River runs through the valley.

Orari Bridge is a small settlement north of Geraldine, New Zealand on the south side of the Orari River. The Orari Bridge is located several kilometers upstream of the township of Orari on State Highway 79. Where the road crosses the river there is a one-laned bridge which is often subject to congestion. The Geraldine Community Board has appealed for the bridge to be converted from a one lane bridge to a two lane to minimize congestion and improve safety. The New Zealand Transport Agency has yet to commit funds to enable this to happen. In December 2019, calls continue for the bridge to be converged to a two lane bridge urgently. Two people sustained moderate injuries in a crash on the bridge in July 2020. The National Party in September 2020 said that they would commit to converted the Orari Bridge to a two lane structure.

Tauranga Crossing is a shopping mall in Tauranga, New Zealand, located at 2 Taurikura Drive, Tauriko. It features more than 70 shops and 25 eateries. It has five anchor stores - H&M, Pak'nSave, The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery and Noel Leeming.

South Canterbury Museum is a museum located in Timaru, New Zealand and owned by the Timaru District Council. Its collections include natural history specimens, Maori artefacts, European settlement and recent social history and documentary history. The museum houses a replica of the aeroplane local inventor Richard Pearse built and experimented with.
