Founded in 1983, the West Adams Heritage Association (WAHA) is an historic preservation organization in Los Angeles, California. It is a tax-exempt non-profit organization [1] that is focused on the preservation of the West Adams section of the city.

As stated on their website: "West Adams is located just south and west of Downtown and contains the city's largest concentration of Victorian and Craftsman homes, five of the city's Los Angeles Historic Preservation Overlay Zones, and a concentration of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monuments."

The organization is known for sponsoring neighborhood tours, [2] [3] an annual holiday tour & progressive dinner party, [4] as well as speaking out about preservation issues affecting West Adams. [5] [6]

Puente Hills Landfill was the largest landfill in the United States, rising 500 feet high and covering 700 acres (2.8 km2). Originally opened in 1957 in a back canyon in the Puente Hills, the landfill was made to meet the demands of urbanization and waste-disposal east of Los Angeles. By the 1990s, the landfill became an artificial mountain visible around the San Gabriel Valley region. Puente Hills accepted four million tons of waste in 2005. As of October 31, 2013, its operating permit was terminated and it no longer accepts new refuse. The former landfill is in the process of becoming a natural habitat preservation area.

Historic West Adams is a residential and commercial region along the route of the Rosa Parks Freeway, paralleling the east-west Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. With variously described boundaries, the area was an exclusive residential district In the late 19th and early 20th centuries for many wealthy and influential people. It underwent a period of deterioration, but many of its stately old buildings have been and are being rehabilitated and preserved.
