West Vincent Highlands Historic District is a national historic district located in Upper Uwchlan Township and West Vincent Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

History

The district includes 147 contributing buildings, seven contributing sites, and six contributing structures in a rural area of Chester County. It includes a variety of early- to mid-19th century vernacular farmhouses and related outbuildings. Other buildings include a stone grist mill (1808) and woolen mill (1813). [2]

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. [1]

The farm has four contributing buildings. They are a stone spring house (1795), stuccoed small barn and wagonshed (1796–97), 2+12-story stone smokehouse (1799), and the farmhouse. The farmhouse was built in three stages and is a 2+12-story, six-bay stone dwelling with a gable roof. The oldest section was built in 1804–04, with additions made in 1808 and 1812.

The district includes 7 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing structure in the spa community of Chester Springs. The district includes the old hotel and inn, two large residences, a bath house at one end of the springs, and a studio. It also includes a wooden summer house that enclosed the iron springs. The property was the site of a hospital commissioned by the Continental Congress and built in 1777. The three-story, 106 feet by 36 feet wide building burned in 1902, was reconstructed, then burned again in the 1960s. The Yellow Springs resort operated in the early-mid 19th century and many of the buildings date from that period.

Doe Run Village Historic District is a national historic district located in West Marlborough Township and East Fallowfield Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. It encompasses twenty-six contributing buildings and one contributing site in the rural community of Doe Run Village. Buildings cluster in three primary locations. The first cluster includes the Doe Run Garage, old general store, and some residences. The second cluster is associated with a cotton mill that was subsequently replaced with the town hall in 1898. The town hall subsequently contained a dairy. Located nearby are the ruins of a paper mill. The third cluster is associated with a gristmill (1744). Also in the district is the Doe Run School and former Presbyterian Church.

It includes a variety of vernacular, banked, stuccoed stone buildings. They were largely built between about 1822 and 1842, with the earliest house built about 1760. The buildings include a farmhouse, a country store, a storekeeper's house, a blacksmith's house, a wheelwright's house and store, a grist mill known as the Embreeville Mill, a "mansion" (1856), and miller's house.
