As of the census [5] of 2000, there were 1,908 people, 830 households, and 523 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 198.0/km2 (512.7/mi2). There were 874 housing units at an average density of 90.7/km2 (234.8/mi2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 85.06% White, 2.20% African American, 0.79% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 6.92% from other races, and 4.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.36% of the population.
There were 830 households, out of which 24.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.3% were married couples living together, 12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% were non-families. 32.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 21.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 21.2% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65 years of age or older.
