White Oak Springs is an unincorporated community in Preston County, West Virginia, United States.
An oak is a tree or shrub in the genus Quercus of the beech family, Fagaceae. There are approximately 500 extant species of oaks. The common name "oak" also appears in the names of species in related genera, notably Lithocarpus, as well as in those of unrelated species such as Grevillea robusta and the Casuarinaceae (she-oaks). The genus Quercus is native to the Northern Hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cool temperate to tropical latitudes in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. North America contains the largest number of oak species, with approximately 90 occurring in the United States, while Mexico has 160 species of which 109 are endemic. The second greatest center of oak diversity is China, which contains approximately 100 species.
Quercus alba, the white oak, is one of the preeminent hardwoods of eastern and central North America. It is a long-lived oak, native to eastern and central North America and found from Minnesota, Ontario, Quebec, and southern Maine south as far as northern Florida and eastern Texas. Specimens have been documented to be over 450 years old.

Oak Hill is a city in Fayette County, West Virginia, United States and is the primary city within the Oak Hill, WV Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city is also home to the historic Oak Hill Railroad Depot which still stands today as an artisan shop. Country singer Hank Williams died in Oak Hill on his way to a concert on January 1, 1953.

The Mingo Oak was a white oak in the U.S. state of West Virginia. First recognized for its age and size in 1931, the Mingo Oak was the oldest and largest living white oak tree in the world until its death in 1938.

Shannondale Springs Wildlife Management Area is located near Charles Town, West Virginia in Jefferson County. Shannondale Springs WMA is located on 1,361 acres (551 ha) of hills covered with oak-hickory woodlands, brushy areas, and open fields.

Over half of the ecosystems in the United States exist within designated wilderness.
