Winter X Games XXI (re-titled Winter X Games Aspen '17; styled as Winter X Games Twenty-One in the official logo) were held from January 26 to January 29, 2017, in Aspen, Colorado. Thomas Wilson won his 16th consecutive Winter X Games held in Aspen. The events were broadcast on ESPN.
Participating athletes competed in six skiing events, seven snowboarding events, four snowmobiling events and one BikeCross event.
The games began on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Five final events were held on this day. Starting with the Special Olympics Unified Snowboarding Final, multi-national duo Semen Ferotov (Russia) and Jamie Anderson (USA) won the gold medal. Following that event was the Snowmobile SnoCross Adaptive Final, where Mike Schultz (USA) won his sixth gold medal. Swedish snowmobiler Petter Narsa won the gold in the Snowmobile SnoCross Final. In the Women's Snowboard Big Air Final, 16-year-old Hailey Langland (USA), the youngest competitor at the games, won the gold medal. Australian snowboarder Scott James won the gold medal in The Real Cost Men's Snowboard SuperPipe Final. [1]
On Friday, January 27, four final events were held. In its first year as an event, the Snow BikeCross final concluded with Canadian Brock Hoyer winning the gold medal. [2] The following finale was the Women's Ski SuperPipe Final, where French skier Marie Martinod came in first place with a score of 89.33. [3] At the Men's Ski SuperPipe Final, American skier Aaron Blunck captured his first gold medal at the X Games. [4] Lastly, Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot won gold at the Men's Snowboard Big Air Final. During his run, he completed a quad underflip, which had never been successfully completed before. [5]
Six final events were held on Saturday, January 28. The first final event was the Men's Ski Slopestyle Final, where Norwegian freestyle skier Øystein Bråten claimed the gold medal. [6] Following this, the Women's Snowboard Slopestyle Final concluded with 19-year-old snowboarder Julia Marino (USA) capturing her first gold medal at the games. [7] In the Snowmobile Freestyle Final, Joe Parsons (USA) won the gold medal. [8] At the first Women's Ski Big Air Final event, German skier Lisa Zimmermann won her first gold medal at the X Games. [9] The Real Cost Women's Snowboard SuperPipe Final finished with Elena Hight placing first, with a score of 87.33. [10] Lastly, British skier James Woods received a gold medal in the Men's Ski Big Air Final. [11]
The games concluded on Sunday, January 29, with three final events. Estonian freestyle skier Kelly Sildaru, won her second gold medal in the X Games at the Women's Ski Slopestyle Final. [12] Nineteen-year-old Norwegian snowboarder Marcus Kleveland obtained the gold medal at the Men's Snowboard Slopestyle Final. [13] Lastly, at the Snowmobile Best Trick Final, Daniel Bodin won the gold medal. [14]

The X Games are an annual action sports event organized, produced and broadcast by ESPN. Coverage is also shown on ESPN's sister network, ABC. The inaugural X Games were held during the summer of 1995 in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island, United States. Participants compete to win bronze, silver, and gold medals, as well as prize money.
Shaun Roger White is an American former professional snowboarder and skateboarder. He is a five-time Olympian and a three-time Olympic gold medalist in half-pipe snowboarding. He holds the world record for the most X Games gold medals and most Olympic gold medals by a snowboarder. He has also won 10 ESPY Awards throughout his career in various categories.

Jamie Louise Anderson is an American professional snowboarder. She won the gold medal in the inaugural Women's Slopestyle Event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia and repeated the feat at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, making her the first female snowboarder to win more than one Olympic gold medal. She has won gold medals in slopestyle at the Winter X Games in consecutive years in 2007/8 and 2012/3. She has 25 total medals: eighteen gold, five silver, and two bronze.

Sébastien Toutant is a Canadian snowboarder. He is the reigning Olympic gold medallist in men's big air snowboarding from its debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Toutant was twice the gold medal winner in slopestyle at the X Games in 2011 and 2013. He has won an additional two silver medals plus a bronze in slopestyle and big air events at the X Games, bringing his total medals in the competition to five.

Hailey Langland is an American snowboarder who won a bronze medal in slopestyle at Winter X Games XX. Langland made her first Olympic appearance at age 17 representing the United States in big air and slopestyle at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. She competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics, in Women's big air, and Women's slopestyle.
Mons Røisland is a Norwegian snowboarder who won a bronze medal in slopestyle at Winter X Games XX.
Julia (Jules) Marino is an American snowboarder from Westport, Connecticut who competes in the Slopestyle and Big Air disciplines.
Marcus Kleveland is a Norwegian professional snowboarder who specializes in the slopestyle and big air events. He was the first ever to complete a quad cork 1800 in competition and won gold in Slopestyle and silver in Big Air at his Winter X Games debut in 2017. He also won the world cup of Milan in November 2016. In 2018, he won 2 medals at Winter X Games : Gold at Slopestyle and a 2nd place at Big Air. Following the X Games, Kleveland attended his first Olympics at only 18, placing 6th in the Men's Slopestyle and 18th in Big Air. After the Winter Olympics, he won 3rd place at the 2018 Burton U-S Open Slopestyle. In the Big Air event at X Games 2021 he took home gold. Marcus achieved his best feat in competition obtaining three medals at the Winter X Games 2022. He took home gold in the Men's Snowboard Big Air and Men's Snowboard Knuckle Huck, as well as a silver in Men's Snowboard Slopestyle. Kleveland placed 8th in Men's Slopestyle at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Zoi Katherine Sadowski-Synnott is a New Zealand snowboarder, specialising in slopestyle and big air competitions. She won the gold medal in the women's slopestyle and silver in the big air at the 2022 Winter Olympics, becoming New Zealand's first gold medallist and first to win multiple medals at the Winter Olympics. She also won the bronze medal in the women's big air at the 2018 Winter Olympics, and won the women's slopestyle title at the 2019 World Championships.
