History

Wistia was founded in 2006 by Brendan Schwartz and Chris Savage. [6] The two founders met at Brown University, where Chris was a film student and Brendan was a computer engineering major. [7] Wistia's first client was a medical devices company. [7] [8]

Funding

In 2018, Wistia raised $17 million [9] [10] worth of debt financing from Accel-KKR, a technology-focused private-equity firm. [6]

Wistia also raised $200,000 in debt in 2009. [11] Previously, the company raised $1.4 million in two rounds from angel investors, in 2008 and 2010. [6] Angel investors include Renesys CEO Ashton Peery. [12]

In 2018, Wistia reported annual revenue of $32M. [9]

Awards and recognition

In 2018, G2 Crowd named Wistia one of the 25 best companies in Boston. [13] In 2017, it was named one of the top company cultures in America by Entrepreneur magazine. [14]
