It was first announced in July 2013 as a budget smartphone line, and became a separate sub-brand of Xiaomi in 2019 with entry-level and mid-range devices, while Xiaomi itself produces upper-range and flagship Xiaomi phones.

It is the first phone from the Yu brand and offers great specifications at low prices, focusing on the increased customisation options offered by the CyanogenMod operating system that Yu preloads onto its devices. The Yureka (Review) and Yuphoria (Review), Yu's next version, both offer the benefits of customisability and great specifications at competitive prices, and have enjoyed some success. Yureka is a dual SIM phone and it supports Cat4 4G LTE with TDD 2300 MHz and FDD 1800 MHz bands supported for India.

It is the part of In series by Micromax announced on November 3, 2020, and released on November 24, 2020. The In 1B, along with Micromax IN Note 1, marked the re-entry of the company into the Indian smartphone market after years of little or no activity.
