The Comoros, officially the Union of the Comoros, is an archipelagic country made up of three islands in Southeastern Africa, located at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel in the Indian Ocean. They are geographically part of the Comoro Islands between the French overseas region of Mayotte and the nation of Madagascar.

Mayotte is the most prosperous territory in the Mozambique Channel, making it a major destination for immigration.

The Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean consist of four small coral islands, an atoll, as well as a reef in the Indian Ocean; they have constituted the fifth district of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, though sovereignty over some or all of the islands is contested by the Comoros, Madagascar, and Mauritius. None of the islands have ever had a permanent population, though the French armed forces maintain small troop contingents on some of the islands.

Megapomponia is a genus of cicadas from Southeast Asia containing the world's largest cicadas species. It now belongs to the subtribe Megapomponiina and was erected by Michel Boulard to accommodate the world's largest cicada species, Megapomponia imperatoria, the type species of Megapomponia. Boulard included seven species in Megapomponia. Lee and Sanborn, however, re-transferred two species to Pomponia, Pomponia decem and Pomponia rajah.
The Platypleurini are a tribe of cicadas from the Afrotropical and Oriental regions There are at least 30 genera and 240 described species in Platypleurini.

It is contiguous with the Glorioso Islands Marine Natural Park, which was established two years later.
