Yip Hon Weng [a] (born 1977) [1] is a Singaporean politician and former Administrative Service officer in the Singapore Civil Service. He is currently working in Temasek. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yio Chu Kang Single Member Constituency (SMC) since 2020. [1]
Yip graduated from Loughborough University with a bachelor's degree with First class Honours in Physical Education, Sports Science and Mathematics under Public Service Commission (PSC) overseas scholarship. [2]
He obtained a PGCE from the University of Exeter. He worked in the Ministry of Education before being subsequently absorbed into the elite Administrative Service.
He subsequently went on to complete master's degrees in; Administration, Planning & Social Policy and International Education (Double Concentrations) at Harvard University; Knowledge Engineering at the National University of Singapore; and Financial Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University, as well as a stint at Carnegie Mellon University working on Computational Finance.
Yip is also a Sloan Fellow and has completed a Master of Business Administration degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the Administrative Service Postgraduate Scholarship conferred by the Singapore Government. [2]
Yip started his career in the Ministry of Education, both as a teacher as well as a higher education policy officer. [2]
He subsequently served in several senior leadership, management and policy related roles in Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ministry of National Development (MND) as well as the Prime Minister's Office. [2]
He was also part of the founding team that established the Municipal Services Office announced during the 2014 National Day Rally Speech, when the OneService app was created. [2] He was Group Chief of the Silver Generation Office in the Agency of Integrated Care and concurrently Advisor (Care Integration) under the Ministry of Health, prior to entering politics.
He is currently working in Temasek. He used to work on early-stage deep tech investments and is now looking at human capital ecosystem strategies.
Yip was fielded in the 2020 general election as a solo PAP candidate contesting in Yio Chu Kang SMC against the Progress Singapore Party (PSP). [3]
On 11 July 2020, Yip was declared an elected Member of Parliament (MP) representing Yio Chu Kang SMC in the 14th Parliament after garnering almost 61% of the vote against PSP's Kayla Low. [4]
In the 2025 general election, Yip ran for reelection in Yio Chu Kang SMC against People's Alliance for Reform's candidate Michael Fang Amin. [5] [6] [7]
On 4 May 2025, Yip was re-elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Yio Chu Kang SMC in the 15th Parliament after garnering 78.73% of the vote against Fang's 21.27%. [8]
Yip is the Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs. He is the Vice Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Health. He is in the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament.
Yip is married and has five children. [9]
