The Yugoslav National Road Race Championship was a cycling race where the Yugoslav cyclists decide who will become the champion for the year to come. The event was established in 1919. The winners of each event were awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey which was in the colours of the national flag. Most of the top riders came from the territories of today's Croatia and Slovenia, where the majority of races were held. [1]

Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using purpose-designed track bicycles.
The Union Cycliste Internationale is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. The UCI is based in Aigle, Switzerland.
Franjo Mihalić was a Yugoslav and Croatian long-distance runner best known for his 1958 win at the Boston Marathon and his marathon silver medal in the 1956 Summer Olympics. Mihalić competed mostly in marathons, road races and cross country races, distinguishing himself by winning many top-level international competitions in the 1950s and setting a combined 25 Croatian and later Yugoslavian national records in long-distance track events between 5000 m and 25 km. In 1957, he became the inaugural winner of the Golden Badge, the award for the best sportsperson of Yugoslavia awarded by the daily Sport. He is regarded as the most accomplished male athlete in the history of Croatian, Serbian and Yugoslav track and field.

This changed to the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships from 2011 but they are more commonly referred to as The Nationals. The under 23 championships were introduced in 2001. Note that these results do not currently include the senior and junior amateur road race championships that were held prior to the open era.

He competed for Dinamo Bucharest and for the national team of Romania, where he had colleagues, among others: Ion Cosma, Gabriel Moiceanu, Marcel Voinea, Ludovic Zanoni, Gheorghe Calcișcă, Walter Siegler, Constantin Dumitrescu and his good friend Dumitru Constantin.

The Beaumont Trophy is a cycle road race first run in 1952. The Trophy was presented to the Gosforth Road Club by Rex Beaumont who was a local cycle wholesaler on Tyneside. The Gosforth Road Club had been created in July 1951 as an offshoot of the Ridley Cycling Club as a result of young riders being unable to gain entry into local races. The race was run under BLRC Regulations from 1952 until 1959 when it came under the regulations of the newly formed British Cycling Federation. It has been run continuously since 1952 and is the longest-running road race in the UK. In the early 1950s the race started and finished in Gosforth Park where the clubhouse was situated. In the early '60s, the start/finish moved to Ponteland because of an increase in traffic. Race distances were normally 85–90 miles and the route was out and back finishing at Cottage Homes, Ponteland.

No competitions were held in 1914–1918, 1926/1927, 1929–1933, 1942–1945 and 1973. The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey.
