Finland competed at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, 15–23 August 2009. A team of 20 athletes was announced in preparation for the competition. The selected athletes had achieved at least one of the competition's qualifying standards. The team failed to win any medals; defending world champion javelin thrower Tero Pitkämäki managed only a fifth-place finish.

The Asian Race Walking Championships is an annual race walking competition for athletes representing countries from Asia, organized by the Asian Athletics Association (AAA). It was established in 2006 and has featured races for senior men and women (20 km). After the inaugural event 2006 in Wajima, Japan, the competition was split into two events: the 20 km were incorporated into the All-Japan Race Walking competitions held in mid March in Nomi, Japan. The 50 km event was held about a month later in mid April in Wajima, Japan. This is established until the year 2008. There are still annual national 50 km championships held in Wajima, but the further fate of the 50 km event within the Asian Race Walking Championships remains unknown.

The Finnish National Road Race Championship is a cycling race where the Finnish cyclists decide who will become the champion for the year to come. The winners of each event are awarded with a symbolic cycling jersey, just like the national flag, these colours can be worn by the rider at other road racing events in the country to show their status as national champion. The champion's stripes can be combined into a sponsored rider's team kit design for this purpose.

Kari Myyryläinen is a Finnish former professional racing cyclist. He won the Finnish national road race title in 1983, 1985 and 1986. He also competed at the 1984 and 1996 Summer Olympics.

Joona Laukka is a Finnish former racing cyclist. He won the Finnish national road race title in 1996. He also competed in the road race event at the 1996 Summer Olympics. During the 1998 Tour de France Laukka escaped with six other riders in a breakaway that stayed away to the finish and as a result he was in 4th place overall for two stages. He would eventually abandon the 98 Tour, but finished the 1997 Tour de France in the top quarter of the field coming in 35th place.

Miika Hietanen is a Finnish former racing cyclist. He won the Finnish national road race title in 1997 and 1999.

Samuel Pökälä is a Finnish former professional cyclist. He rode at the 2013 UCI World Time Trial Championships, where he finished in 64th place, and he won the Finnish National Road Race Championships in 2015. In 2021, Pökälä was the winner of the world middle distance and mass start championships in mountain bike orienteering.

The 2016 national road cycling championships began in Australia with the time trial event on 7 January, as is tradition.

Matti Manninen is a Finnish cyclist, who currently rides for Finnish amateur team GIF–Chebici.

Anders Bäckman is a Finnish cyclist. He won the Finnish National Road Race Championships in 2018 and 2022.

Antti-Jussi Juntunen is a Finnish racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team ABLOC CT. In August 2020, he won the Finnish National Road Race Championships.

Minna-Maria Kangas is a Finnish racing cyclist, who currently rides for Bingoal-WB Ladies. In August 2020, she won the Finnish National Road Race Championships.
