Makati, officially the City of Makati, is a highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines.
Taguig, officially the City of Taguig, is the fourth-most populous city in the Philippines with a population of 1.2 million people. The city is located alongside the northwestern shores of Laguna de Bay in Metro Manila, Philippines. Taguig is known for Bonifacio Global City, one of the leading financial centers of the Philippines. Originally a fishing village during the Spanish and American colonial periods, it experienced rapid growth when former military reservations were converted by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) into financial centers and mixed-use planned communities. Taguig became a highly urbanized city with the passage of Republic Act No. 8487 in 2004, which was ratified by a plebiscite.
Bonifacio Global City is a financial business district in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is located 11 kilometers (6.8 mi) southeast of the capital city of Manila. The district experienced commercial growth following the sale of a 440 ha military base at Fort Bonifacio by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). The entire district used to be the part of the main Philippine Army camp.

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority is a government-owned and controlled corporation under the Office of the President of the Philippines. It is a government instrumentality vested with corporate powers under Republic Act 7227, signed into law by former President Corazon C. Aquino on March 13, 1992. The BCDA Charter was as amended by RA 7917 in 1995, and further amended by RA 9400 in 2007. The corporation is mandated to transform former US military bases into alternative productive civilian use.

The Kalayaan Flyover, also known as the EDSA–Kalayaan Flyover, is a four-lane flyover connecting Gil Puyat Avenue, Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), Kalayaan Avenue, and 32nd Street in Metro Manila, the Philippines. The Makati Intra-city Subway or (MkTr) is an under-construction underground rapid transit line to be located in Makati, Metro Manila, that will link establishments across the city's business district. It will be built under a public-private partnership program between the Makati City Government and a private consortium, led by Philippine Infradev Holdings. Proponents of the subway are expected to begin construction by December 2018, and Makati Mayor Abigail Binay projects completion by 2025. The subway will cost $2.5 billion and is expected to accommodate 700,000 passengers daily. It will also have nine stations, with connections to the existing MRT Line 3, Pasig River Ferry Service, and the under-construction Metro Manila Subway.

It was established in 1972 as a barangay under Makati, and its de facto territory consists of multiple exclaves mostly within Palar Village of Barangay Pinagsama and settlements along the Consular Road area between McKinley West of the Bonifacio Capital District and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

The area were formerly disputed between the cities of Makati and Taguig, as well as the municipality of Pateros. As of November 2023, the barangays were transferred from Makati to Taguig.
