    (153201) 2000 WO107 is a sub-kilometer asteroid, classified as near-Earth object and potentially hazardous asteroid of the Aten group with a very well determined orbit. [1] It was discovered on 29 November 2000, by astronomers of the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) at the Lincoln Laboratory's Experimental Test Site near Socorro, New Mexico, in the United States. [2] It is a contact binary. [4]

    Orbit

    The orbit of this potentially hazardous asteroid (PHA) has been well-established with 20 years of observations. It orbits from inside the orbit of Mercury out to the orbit of Mars. It makes close approaches to all of the inner planets. [1]

    2020

    The asteroid came to perihelion on 13 October 2020 [1] when it passed the Sun going 88 kilometers per second (320,000 kilometers per hour). [a] The asteroid was not more than 60 degrees from the Sun until 26 November 2020 and was observed by Goldstone radar on 27 November 2020. [4] On 29 November 2020 the asteroid passed 0.02876  AU (4.302 million  km ; 11.19  LD ) from Earth. [1] Even the 2018 orbit solution had a known accuracy of roughly ±150 km for the close approach. With the radar observations the close approach distance is known with an accuracy of roughly ±5 km.

    This asteroid will pass 0.00162  AU (242 thousand  km ; 0.63  LD ) from Earth on 1 December 2140. [1] The 2140 close approach distance is known with an accuracy of roughly ±1000 km. For comparison, the distance to the Moon is about 0.0026 AU (384,400 km).

    The Jupiter Tisserand invariant, used to distinguish different kinds of orbits, is 6.228. [1]

    Physical characteristics

    In the SMASS classification, the object's spectral type is that of an X-type. [1] [6] According to the space-based survey by NASA's NEOWISE mission, the asteroid measures 510 meters in diameter and its surface has an albedo of 0.129. [3]

    Numbering and naming

    This minor planet was numbered by the Minor Planet Center on 2 April 2007. [7] As of 2018, it has not been named. [2]

    3752 Camillo is an inclined contact-binary asteroid, classified as near-Earth object of the Apollo group, approximately 2.3 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 15 August 1985, by astronomers Eleanor Helin and Maria Barucci using a 0.9-metre (35 in) telescope at the CERGA Observatory in Caussols, France. Lightcurve studies by Petr Pravec in 1998 suggest that the assumed S-type asteroid has an elongated shape and a longer-than average rotation period of 38 hours.

    12923 Zephyr (prov. designation:1999 GK4) is a stony asteroid, classified as potentially hazardous asteroid and near-Earth object of the Apollo group, approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) in diameter. It was discovered on 11 April 1999, by astronomers of the Lowell Observatory Near-Earth Object Search at Anderson Mesa Station near Flagstaff, Arizona. The asteroid was named after the deity Zephyrus from Greek mythology.

    <span class="mw-page-title-main">Potentially hazardous object</span> Hazardous near-Earth asteroid or comet

    A potentially hazardous object (PHO) is a near-Earth object – either an asteroid or a comet – with an orbit that can make close approaches to the Earth and which is large enough to cause significant regional damage in the event of impact. They are conventionally defined as having a minimum orbit intersection distance with Earth of less than 0.05 astronomical units and an absolute magnitude of 22 or brighter, the latter of which roughly corresponds to a size larger than 140 meters. More than 99% of the known potentially hazardous objects are no impact threat over the next 100 years. As of September 2022, just 17 of the known potentially hazardous objects listed on the Sentry Risk Table could not be excluded as potential threats over the next hundred years. Over hundreds if not thousands of years though, the orbits of some "potentially hazardous" asteroids can evolve to live up to their namesake.

    <span class="nowrap">(276033) 2002 AJ<sub>129</sub></span> Mercury-crossing asteroid

    (276033) 2002 AJ129, provisional designation 2002 AJ129, is a Mercury-crossing asteroid. It has the ninth-smallest perihelion of all numbered asteroids, after asteroids such as 2000 BD19, 2004 UL, and 2008 XM. It makes close approaches to all of the inner planets and asteroid 4 Vesta. The asteroid is estimated to be between 0.5–1.2 kilometers (0.3–0.7 mi) across. In January 2018 there was much media hype about this asteroid being classified as a potentially hazardous asteroid, although there is no known threat of an impact for hundreds if not thousands of years. The media has compared the size of the asteroid to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

    <span class="nowrap">(7482) 1994 PC<sub>1</sub></span> Near-Earth asteroid January 2022

    (7482) 1994 PC1 is a stony asteroid and near-Earth object, currently estimated to be the most potentially hazardous asteroid over the next 1000 years. It is in the Apollo group, approximately 1.1 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 9 August 1994, by astronomer Robert McNaught at the Siding Spring Observatory in Coonabarabran, Australia. With an observation arc of 47 years it has a very well known orbit and was observed by Goldstone radar in January 1997.

    <span class="nowrap">(214869) 2007 PA<sub>8</sub></span> Asteroid

    (214869) 2007 PA8 is an asteroid and slow rotator, classified as near-Earth object and potentially hazardous asteroid of the Apollo group, approximately 1.4 kilometers in diameter.

    (394130) 2006 HY51 is a near-Earth object of the Apollo asteroid group with a high orbital eccentricity, approximately 1.2 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 26 April 2006, by LINEAR at Lincoln Lab's ETS in Socorro, New Mexico, United States.

    <span class="nowrap">(52768) 1998 OR<sub>2</sub></span> Asteroid

    (52768) 1998 OR2 (provisional designation 1998 OR2) is an asteroid on an eccentric orbit, classified as a near-Earth object and potentially hazardous asteroid of the Amor group, with a diameter of 2 kilometers (1.2 mi). It was discovered on 24 July 1998, by astronomers of the Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking (NEAT) program at the Haleakala Observatory, Hawaii, it passed very near to earth on 29 April 2020 at around 4:15am. It is one of the brightest and therefore largest potentially hazardous asteroids known to exist. With an observation arc of 35 years, the asteroid has a well-determined orbit, and its trajectory is well known through the year 2197. The asteroid's orbit is only potentially hazardous on a time scale of thousands of years.

    <span class="nowrap">(505657) 2014 SR<sub>339</sub></span> Asteroid of the Apollo group

    (505657) 2014 SR339, provisional designation 2014 SR339, is a dark and elongated asteroid, classified as near-Earth object and potentially hazardous asteroid of the Apollo group, approximately 970 meters (3,200 feet) in diameter. It was discovered on 30 September 2014, by NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer telescope (WISE) in Earth's orbit. Closely observed at Goldstone and Arecibo in February 2018, it has a rotation period of 8.7 hours.

    (163243) 2002 FB3, provisional designation 2002 FB3, is a stony asteroid on an eccentric orbit, classified as near-Earth object and potentially hazardous asteroid of the Athen group, approximately 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) in diameter. It was discovered on 18 March 2002, by astronomers with the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research at the Lincoln Laboratory's Experimental Test Site near Socorro, New Mexico, in the United States. The Q-type asteroid has a rotation period of 6.2 hours.

    <span class="nowrap">(164121) 2003 YT<sub>1</sub></span> Asteroid

    (164121) 2003 YT1, provisional designation 2003 YT1, is a bright asteroid and synchronous binary system on a highly eccentric orbit, classified as near-Earth object and potentially hazardous asteroid of the Apollo group, approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) in diameter. It was discovered on 18 December 2003, by astronomers with the Catalina Sky Survey at the Catalina Station near Tucson, Arizona, in the United States. The V-type asteroid has a short rotation period of 2.3 hours. Its 210-meter sized minor-planet moon was discovered at Arecibo Observatory in May 2004.

    <span class="nowrap">2017 YE<sub>5</sub></span> Binary near-Earth asteroid

    2017 YE5 is a binary pair of asteroids of approximately equal size and mass, each about 0.9 km (0.56 mi) in diameter. Classified as a near-Earth asteroid and potentially hazardous object of the Apollo group, 2017 YE5 was discovered by amateur astronomer Claudine Rinner at the Oukaïmeden Observatory on 21 December 2017. On 21 June 2018, the pair of asteroids passed within 15.5 lunar distances or approximately 6 million km (3.7 million mi) from Earth. During the close encounter, 2017 YE5 was resolved in high detail by concurrent radar observations by the Arecibo and Green Bank observatories, along with individual observations by the Goldstone Solar System Radar. 2017 YE5 is likely an extinct or dormant comet due to its distant elliptical orbit and dark red surface.

    <span class="nowrap">2020 BX<sub>12</sub></span> Binary near-Earth asteroid

    2020 BX12 is a sub-kilometer binary asteroid, classified as a near-Earth asteroid and potentially hazardous object of the Apollo group. It was discovered on 27 January 2020 by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System survey at the Mauna Loa Observatory during its approach to Earth of 0.02915 AU (4.361 million km; 11.34 LD). Radar observations of the asteroid were carried out by the Arecibo Observatory on 4 February 2020, revealing a natural satellite orbiting 360 m (1,180 ft) from the primary body.

    <span class="nowrap">(231937) 2001 FO<sub>32</sub></span> Asteroid

    (231937) 2001 FO32 is a near-Earth asteroid classified as a potentially hazardous asteroid of the Apollo group. With an estimated diameter around 550 m (1,800 ft), it was discovered by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research at Socorro, New Mexico on 23 March 2001. The asteroid safely passed by Earth on 21 March 2021 16:03 UTC from a closest approach distance of 0.0135 AU (2.02 million km; 1.25 million mi), or 5.25 lunar distances (LD). During the day before closest approach, 2001 FO32 reached a peak apparent magnitude of 11.7 and was visible to ground-based observers with telescope apertures of at least 20 cm (8 in). It is the largest and one of the fastest asteroids to approach Earth within 10 LD (3.8 million km; 2.4 million mi) in 2021.
