The 1969 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships men's competition took place on the new all weather running track on the north campus of Miami Dade College in the Westview area near Miami, Florida. The women's division held their championships separately at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. The Marathon championships were at the Western Hemisphere Marathon, in Culver City, California.

Galen Rupp is an American long-distance runner. He competed in the Summer Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, 2012 in London, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 2021 in Tokyo. He won the silver medal in the men's 10,000 meters in London and the bronze medal in the men's marathon in Rio de Janeiro. Rupp competed for the University of Oregon and trained under Alberto Salazar as a member of the Nike Oregon Project. He won the 2017 Chicago Marathon, becoming the first American to do so since Khalid Khannouchi in 2002. Rupp won the marathon at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in Atlanta with a time of 2:09:20, and qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, where he finished eighth.

The 8th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships was held on October 3, 1999, in the city of Palermo, Italy. A total of 192 athletes, 119 men and 73 women, from 48 countries, took part. The course was traced through the historical centre of the town with the start/finish line on the "Foro Italico." A detailed report on the event and an appraisal of the results were given.

Jack Strangl Bacheler is an American former long-distance runner and two-time U.S. Olympian. Born in Washington, District of Columbia, Bacheler was a founding member of the Florida Track Club at Gainesville, Florida in the late 1960s, and personally designed the club's distinctive "orange" logo. Standing 6 feet 7 inches, yet weighing only 165 pounds, he towered over most of his competitors. Now living in Clayton, North Carolina, he is married to Patricia Bacheler. Bacheler has two children, daughter Teresa (Teri), and son Matthew (Matt).

The 2008 United States Olympic trials for track and field were held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Organised by USA Track and Field, the ten-day competition lasted from June 27 until July 8 and served as the national championships in track and field for the United States.

The 2004 United States Olympic trials for track and field were held at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California. Organised by USA Track and Field, the ten-day competition lasted from July 9 until July 18 and served as the national championships in track and field for the United States.

The 2002 World Military Track and Field Championships were the 40th edition of the international athletics competition between military personnel organised by the CISM. The championships were held in Tivoli, Lazio, Italy from 4–7 September. A total of 30 events were contested, of which 21 by male and 9 by female athletes.

The 1988 United States Olympic trials for track and field were held at IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is the only time this venue has been used for the Olympic trials. With the 2013 installation of Field Turf, it is unlikely to host the event again. Organised by The Athletics Congress (TAC), the nine-day competition lasted from July 15 to 23. The national championships in track and field for the United States was a separate event that year, held a week earlier in Tampa, Florida, the last time the Olympic trials were not also the National Championships. The women's Marathon Olympic trials were held on May 1 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The men's Marathon trials were in Jersey City, New Jersey on April 24. That same day, the 50K Racewalk trials were held adjacent to the stadium.

The 1985 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships took place between June 15–17 at IUPUI Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana. The meet was organized by The Athletics Congress. The decathlon and heptathlon were held the two days after the main meet. Marathon National Championships were held at the California International Marathon in December.

This was the last edition to segregate genders.

The 1964 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships men's competition took place between June 26–28 at Rutgers Stadium in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The women's division held their championships separately at the new Hanford Bowl in Hanford, California. The Hanford Bowl was one of the first stadiums to sport an all-weather track made of asphalt and rubber. While this meet was separate from the Olympic Trials, since 1964 was an Olympic year, events were held over metric distances.

The 1950 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships men's competition took place between June 23–25 at Byrd Stadium on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. The women's division held their championships separately at the newly opened Hopper Field in Freeport, Texas. The decathlon was held a week later in Tulare, California, where Olympic champion Bob Mathias set his first world record on his home track.

The 1994 German Athletics Championships was the 94th edition of the national championship in outdoor track and field for Germany. It was held on 1–3 July at the Steigerwaldstadion in Erfurt. It served as the selection meeting for Germany at the 1994 European Athletics Championships.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2020 Japan Championships in Athletics</span> International athletics championship event

The 104th Japan Championships in Athletics was held at Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata. Organised by JAAF, the three-day competition took place from 1–3 October and served as the national championships in track and field for the Japan. The competition originally intended to serve as the qualifying trial for Japan at the 2020 Summer Olympics, but both the national championships and the Olympics were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. The long-distance competitions were held separately from the main track and field competition, with 3000 metres steeplechase, 5000 metres and 10,000 metres all set to take place on 4 December at the Nagai Stadium.

The 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held in Eugene, Oregon organized by USA Track and Field. It was serving as the national championships in track and field for the United States.
