The 1969 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships men's competition took place on the new all weather running track on the north campus of Miami Dade College in the Westview area near Miami, Florida. The women's division held their championships separately at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. The Marathon championships were at the Western Hemisphere Marathon, in Culver City, California.
Most events were held over imperial distances.

Kara Goucher is an American long-distance runner, author, television commentator, and podcaster. She was the 10,000 meters silver medalist at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and represented the USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics. She made her marathon debut in 2008 and finished third the following year at the Boston Marathon.
Shalane Grace Flanagan is an American long-distance runner, coach, Olympic medalist and New York City Marathon champion. She was the first American woman to win the New York City Marathon since 1977. She holds the NACAC area records in both the 10k and 15k road races.
The USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships is an annual track and field competition organized by USA Track & Field, which serves as the American national championships for the sport. Since the year 1992, in the years which feature a Summer Olympics, World Athletics Championships, Pan American Games, NACAC Championships, or an IAAF Continental Cup, the championships serve as a way of selecting the best athletes for those competitions.

Sara Vaughn is an American middle-distance runner. Vaughn placed 18th in the women's 1500 metres at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. Vaughn placed 10th in 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's 1500 metres at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
The Men's 1975 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships took place between June 25–27 at Hayward Field on the campus of University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. The Women's Championships took place in less elegant conditions at White Plains High School in White Plains, New York. The meet was organized by the Amateur Athletic Union. This was the last edition to segregate genders.
The 1973 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships men's competition took place between June 15–17 at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, California. This was Bakersfield's third and last time to host the men's division in a sequence every three years since 1967. At this time, Memorial Stadium still had a finely crushed brick surface, the last time the championships was held on a dirt track. They would host the women's division the following year, as they had in 1971. This was also the last time the men's division would compete at imperial distances. The women's division held their championships separately a little over a hundred fifty miles south at Anteater Stadium on the campus of University of California, Irvine in Irvine, California.

While this meet was separate from the Olympic Trials, since 1964 was an Olympic year, events were held over metric distances.
The 1950 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships men's competition took place between June 23–25 at Byrd Stadium on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. The women's division held their championships separately at the newly opened Hopper Field in Freeport, Texas. The decathlon was held a week later in Tulare, California, where Olympic champion Bob Mathias set his first world record on his home track.
