The 19th British Academy Video Game Awards were hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on 30 March 2023 to honour the best video games of 2022. Held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the ceremony was hosted by esports presenter Frankie Ward, taking over from Elle Osili-Wood who hosted the previous two ceremonies. [1] The ceremony was livestreamed exclusively on BAFTA's Twitch channel, hosted by games journalist Julia Hardy and comedian Inel Tomlinson. Red carpet coverage was presented by Eurogamer's Aoife Wilson.

Sony Interactive's God of War Ragnarök received the most nominations, with fifteen, becoming the most nominated game in the history of the BAFTA Games Awards. [2] [3] While God of War Ragnarök won the most awards at the ceremony, with six, the top honour, Best Game, was surprisingly won by Vampire Survivors .

The nominees were announced by games journalist Julia Hardy on 2 March 2023 via a livestream held on BAFTA's Twitch channel. An additional panel of live streamers were revealed as the "BAFTA Games Squad", who also streamed the nominations announcement and discussed their thoughts on the nominated games. [4] [5] The EE Game of the Year nominees, the only category voted for by the British public, were announced two days earlier on 28 February 2023, and were selected by a jury of ten industry professionals, with voting closing on 28 March, two days prior to the ceremony. [6]

The 16th British Academy Video Game Awards was hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on 2 April 2020 to honour the best video games of 2019. Though originally planned to be presented at a ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the event was instead presented as a live stream due to concern over the coronavirus pandemic. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) EE Game of the Year, formerly EE Mobile Game of the Year is an audience voted award presented annually at the British Academy Games Awards honouring "the best game of the year, as voted for by the public". The award is sponsored by the telecommunications company EE Limited and winners receive a special solid yellow BAFTA statuette as opposed to the standard golden statuettes given to the recipients of other categories.
