The 2003 East Asian Football Championship was the 1st edition of the East Asian Football Championship, an international football tournament for East Asian countries and territories organized by the EAFF. The qualifiers were held in February and March 2003 in Hong Kong and the final was held in December 2003 in Japan. South Korea won the inaugural championship.

Contents

China PR, South Korea, and Japan were the direct finalists. The fourth finalist spot was competed among Chinese Taipei, Guam, Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia. Hong Kong won the qualifiers.

The Preliminary competition was hosted by Hong Kong. The winner of the group advanced to the finals. North Korea withdrew from the tournament.

The qualification process for the 2004 AFC Asian Cup football competition began in March 2003. Out of the 45 AFC members, only Cambodia and the Philippines failed to enter for the tournament. Both China, the hosts and Japan, the reigning champions automatically qualified for the finals. The lowest ranked 20 teams were placed in 6 preliminary qualifying groups of 3 and one group of 2, with the group winners joining the remaining 21 teams in 7 groups of 4. The top two of each of these groups qualified for the finals in China.

The 2010 EAFF East Asian Football Championship was the fourth edition of the tournament which was held between 6 and 14 February 2010. Two preliminary competitions were held during 2009.

The football tournament at the 2009 East Asian Games was the fifth edition of East Asian Games football tournament. It was held in Hong Kong form 2 December 2009 to 13 December 2009.

Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield 2009–10, officially named as Canbo Senior Shield due to the competition's sponsorship by Guangdong Canbo Electrical, was the 108th season of one of the Asian oldest football knockout competition, Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield. It was a knockout competition for all the teams of Hong Kong First Division League. The winner South China has guaranteed a place in the 2011 AFC Cup.

The 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup was the 5th edition of this regional competition, the football championship of East Asia. Two preliminary competitions were held during 2012. Mongolia were suspended from the EAFF and could not compete in any EAFF competition until March 2014, whilst Australia accepted an invitation to take part.
