In Europe, Spartak were knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Celta Vigo before being knocked out of the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League by Celtic in the Third Qualifying Round.

The 2008 FC Spartak Moscow season was the club's 17th season in the Russian Premier League season. Spartak finished the season in 8th while progressing to the Quarterfinals of the 2008–09 Russian Cup which took place during the 2009 season. In Europe, Spartak were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Dynamo Kyiv at the Third Qualifying round before dropping into the 2008–09 UEFA Cup where they finished 4th in their group.

The 2009 FC Spartak Moscow season was the club's 18th season in the Russian Premier League season. Spartak finished the season in 2nd place, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2008–09 Russian Cup, where they were knocked out by Dynamo Moscow, and the Last 16 of the 2009–10 Russian Cup where FC Moscow knocked them out.

The 2010 FC Spartak Moscow season was the club's 19th season in the Russian Premier League season.
