The 2015–16 Maio Island League season was the 25th of the competition of the second-tier football in the island of Maio, Cape Verde and first as the Maio Premier Division. [1] Its started on 23 January and finished on 8 May 2016. The tournament was organized by the Maio Regional Football Association (Associação Regional do Maio de Futebol, ARMF). [2] Académico 83 won their 7th and title and finished with 29 points and participated in the 2016 national championships in May. Académico 83 both also qualified for the regional Super Cup and the first ever Champion's Cup played later in the year.
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played with a spherical ball between two teams of eleven players. The object of the game is to score by moving the ball beyond the goal line into the opposing goal.
Maio is the easternmost of the Sotavento islands of Cape Verde. Maio is located south of the island of Boa Vista and east of Santiago. Administratively, the island forms one concelho (municipality): Maio.
Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).
The biggest win was Académico 83 who defeated Barreirense 1-7 on May 7 in the 14th and final round of the season. The biggest home win was Académica Calheta do Maio who defeated Santana 6-0 on January 31 in the third round. Barreirense conceded 36 goals.
Morreirense took the number one spot in the first round. The Académicas took it for the rest of the season, Académica Calheta do Maio took it first up to round 12 with brief interruptions, Académico 83 first took it in the fourth round, rounds 6 & 7 and the final two rounds of the season.
Académico 83 scored the most number of goals of the season numbering 34, Beira-Mar scored the least numbering 7, in the following season, Beira-Mar withdrew due to financial reasons.
Santana had a 13 match losing streak and 18 matches without a win, their last win was on January 11, 2014 and their last draw was on February 23, 2014. Santana's next draw was on February 13 with Académico 83 numbering two goals and their next win was on February 21 who defeated Onze Unidos 2-1. Also Santana's last home win was on April 1, 2012 where they defeated Beira-Mar 3-1, it ended their 12 match losing streak at home on February 21, 2016, Santana's next win away was on April 23 after defeating Barreirense 2-1.
There were no competition on the third week of March due to the parliamentary elections on March 20 and the first week of May due to the regional cup competitions.

Clube Desportivo Onze Unidos is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Maio Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the island of Maio Island. Since the implementation of the Second Division in 2015, Since the implementation of the Second Division in 2015, Onze Unidos are one of five unrelegated clubs of Maio.
Barreirense Futebol Clube is a sports club in Maio Island, Cape Verde based in the village of Barreiro in the south of the island and mainly plays in the stadium in the southeast of Cidade do Maio. Barreirense is the third most successful football (soccer) club on Maio having won about 5 official regional titles. Since the implementation of the Second Division in 2015, Barreirense are now the five unrelegated clubs of the island.

The team is based in the town of Santa Cruz in the southeastern part of the island of Santiago and plays at Estádio Municipal 25 de Julho west of town. Since the implementation of the two tier regional system in 2015, Scorpion Vermelho are one of ten unrelegated clubs of northern Santiago.

Its current president is Edvaldo Soares and its coach is Nando. Since the implementation of the Second Division in 2015, Académico 83 are now the five unrelegated clubs of the island.
The 2015 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 36th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 9 May and finished on 11 July. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The schedule including its matches were created on Saturday January 10. CS Mindelense won the eleventh title and became the second club after Sporting Praia to win three in a row. Neither clubs participated in the CAF Champions League competition in 2016 and in the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup. This was the second ever and most recent finals competition that two clubs came from the same island as well as the same city.

The tournament was organized by the Sal Regional Football Association. Sport Clube Verdun won their second and recent title and qualified into the 2014 Cape Verdean Football Championships, their next in more than thirty years and the first in Group Stage. SC Verdun of Pedra de Lume won their second and recent title and finished with 20 points, a point difference from Académico do Aeroporto. Also Verdun had its best season results to date, in the following two seasons, the club did not reach the highest positions in the island.

Beira-Mar won their first and only title and was the next in the nation to win their first.

The 2015–16 Santo Antão Island League (North) season was the 17th competition of football and second with the second and third tier in northern part the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. Its started on 16 January 2016 and finished on 24 April 2014. The tournament was organized by the Santo Antão North Regional Football Association. Sinagoga won the first and only title and finished with 28 points, a club record and participated in the 2016 Cape Verdean Football Championships in mid May.

The 2015-16 Santiago Island League (North) season was the competition of the second-tier football in the northern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. Its started on 12 December 2015 and finished on 8 May 2016. The tournament was organized by the Santiago North Regional Football Association. It was the first ever season without any group stage and would become the longest of any of the regional leagues in Cape Verde and the only that occurred as the following season became the same as the South Zone's. Varandinha won their first and only title after finishing a record breaking 63 points and a record 20 wins, the highest of any of the island leagues in the nation and competed in the national championships. It was one of the newest clubs to win their first titles of any island/regional league in the nation.
The 2016–17 Maio Island League season was the 26th of the competition of the football competition in the island of Maio, Cape Verde and the second of the second and third tier football competitions. Its started on January 14 and finished on April 23, 2017. The tournament was organized by the Maio Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio 20 de Janeiro. Onze Unidos won their 10th title and finished with 25 points. Onze Unidos also qualified for both the regional Super Cup and the second Champion's Cup. Not one of the original seven, Real Marítimo was the second club to be relegated and the first of the clubs registered after 2009 to do so.
The 2016–17 Boa Vista Island League season was the competition of the second-tier football in the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde. Its started on 13 January and finished early on 30 April 2017. The championships were organized by the Boa Vista Regional Football Association. Sport Sal Rei Club won the 10th title, it was also the club's second straight, Sal Rei qualified into the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and placed in Group C.
The 2016-17 Sal Island League season was the competition of the second and third tier football in the island of Sal, Cape Verde. The season started on 14 January and finished on 30 April 2016. The competition was organized by the Sal Regional Football Association. Académico do Aeroporto won their 14th title and participated at the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and participated in Group A. Its matches were played at Estádio Marcelo Leitão.
The 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 38th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. It started on 13 May and finished on 27 August, it started a days later than last season. Originally to finish on 15 July, instead, it was rescheduled to 27 August. The championship was governed by the Cape Verdean Football Federation.
The 2017–18 Maio Island League season was the 27th of the competition of the football competition in the island of Maio, Cape Verde and the third of the second and third tier football competitions. Its started on December 16, 2017 and finished on April 1, 2018. The championships were organized by the Maio Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio 20 de Janeiro. Barreirense FC won their third title and finished with a club record of 34 points. Barreirense will qualify for both the regional Super Cup and the second Champion's Cup at the end of the season. After Beira-Mar, Santana de Morrinho is recent of the original seven that will be relegated to the Second Division next season as they finished last place, they did not even played their final match of the season.
