The 2016 Badminton Asia Junior Championships is the 19th edition of the Asia continental junior championships to crown the best U-19 badminton players across Asia. This tournament was held in Bangkok, Thailand, between 9 and 17 July 2016. [1] The championships consists of mixed team and individual events. There were 19 countries with over 250 players participating in this edition. [2]

Venue

This tournament was held at CPB Badminton and Sports Science Training Center. [1]

Seed

The defending champion, China, was the top seeds in the mixed team event followed by Thailand and Indonesia. In the individual event, The host country Thai boys' Kantaphon Wangcharoen, and girls' Pornpawee Chochuwong were the top seeds. China's pairs He Jiting / Tan Qiang and He Jiting / Du Yue were the top seeding in the boys' and mixed doubles respectively, while the girls' doubles goes to Indonesian pair Apriani Rahayu and Jauza Fadhila Sugiarto. Chinese pair Du Yue and Li Yinhui were the defending champion. Du Yue with her new partner Xu Ya won the 2016 title after beat their compatriot Ni Bowen and Zhou Chaomin in straight game 21–15, 21–16.

She and Greysia Polii are the reigning Olympic champions in the women's doubles following their win at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Rahayu also won bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games in the women's team and doubles with her former partner Greysia Polii.

Du Yue is a Chinese badminton player. She won the silver medal at the 2014 Asian Junior Championships in the girls' doubles event partnered with Li Yinhui. She and Li then made it to the gold medal 2015. Du also claimed the girls' doubles gold in 2016 partnered with Xu Ya and doubled-up the title winning mixed doubles gold with He Jiting. She and He Jiting captured the gold medal at the 2016 World Junior Championships, which in the previous year they won the silver medal. She won her first senior international title at the 2017 China International tournament in the women's doubles event partnered with Xu Ya. Du was the mixed doubles silver medalist at the 2019 Asian Championships, and the women's doubles bronze medalist at the 2019 World Championships.

Rinov Rivaldy is an Indonesian badminton player affiliated with Djarum club. He won the gold medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships, and bronze medals at the 2019 and 2021 SEA Games in the mixed doubles with Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.

Tan Qiang is a Chinese badminton player. In 2015, he won the bronze medal at the Asian Junior Championships in the boys' doubles event partnered with Ren Xiangyu, and in 2016, won the silver medal partnered with He Jiting. In 2017, he became the runner-up at the China International tournament in the mixed doubles event partnered with Xu Ya. He helped the national team win the 2023 Asia Mixed Team Championships.

Chen finally emerge as the mixed doubles champion for the second time after she and Zheng defeat the second seeds from South Korea Choi Jong-woo and Kim Hye-jeong in the finals with the score 21–8, 21–12.

The mixed doubles tournament of the 2017 Asian Junior Badminton Championships was held from July 26 to 30. The defending champions of the last edition were He Jiting and Du Yue from China. The host pair, No 5. seeds Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti claim the title after defeat the No. 3 seed from South Korea Na Sung-seung and Seong Ah-yeong in rubber games with the score 21–19, 19–21, 21–9.

Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti is an Indonesian badminton player affiliated with Djarum club. She won the gold medal in the mixed doubles at the 2017 Asian Junior Championships, and in the women's doubles at the 2021 SEA Games.

The 2018 Korea Masters was a badminton tournament which took place at Gwangju Women’s University Stadium in South Korea from 27 November to 2 December 2018 and had a total prize of $250,000 (₩282,744,600).

Pitha Haningtyas Mentari is an Indonesian badminton player from Jaya Raya Jakarta badminton club. She won the gold medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships, and bronze medals at the 2019 and 2021 SEA Games in the mixed doubles with Rinov Rivaldy. Mentari was also a member of the Indonesian women's team that won the silver medal in 2019 and 2021 SEA Games.
