The 2012 Asian Junior Badminton Championships is an Asia continental junior championships to crown the best U-19 badminton players across Asia. It was held in Gimcheon Indoor Stadium, Gimcheon, South Korea from June 30 to July 7, 2012. [1]

Tournament

The 2013 Asian Junior Badminton Championships organized by the Gyeongbuk Badminton Association, Badminton Korea Association, and Badminton Asia Confederation. [1] The motto of this tournament is "Peace of Asia through shuttlecock". This tournament consists of mixed team competition, which was held from 30 June–3 July, as well as five individual events started from 3–7 July. More than 250 athletes from 20 countries participated in this tournament. [2]

Venue

This tournament was held at Gimcheon Indoor Stadium in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, South Korea. [2]

Medalists

In the mixed team event, Japan claim the title for the first time after defeat China with the score 3–0. [3] In the individuals event, South Korea ensure two titles after won the mixed and girls' doubles event. Japan, India, and Indonesia seize a title by winning the boys' singles, girls' singles and boys' doubles events respectively. [4]

In the senior international event, she won the 2011 Kenya International in the mixed doubles with Lê Hà Anh, and 2015 Eurasia Bulgaria International in the women's doubles with Phạm Như Thảo.

Yuta Watanabe is a badminton player from Japan. He is a member of the Nihon Unisys team, and national team A representative. Known for his quick and explosive movements with his signature drop shot. Watanabe has collected three bronze medals at the World Junior Championships, and also four bronze at the Asian Junior Championships. Watanabe was selected to join the Japanese mixed team compete at the 2017 Sudirman Cup in Gold Coast, Australia, winning a gold medal in the qualification to Gold Coast at the 2017 Asia Mixed Team Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and the team finished in the semi-final round, took the bronze medal. The left-handed Watanabe has won the maiden Super 1000 tournament a total of four times, the first ever male player from Japan to win an All England Open title. First at the 2018 All England Open in the mixed doubles event partnered with Arisa Higashino, then in the 2020 All England Open in the men's doubles event with Hiroyuki Endo, and in both men's and mixed doubles in the 2021 All England Open, defending his men's doubles title with Hiroyuki Endo and winning the mixed doubles category with once again, Arisa Higashino.

The 1999 Asian Junior Badminton Championships were held in Yangon, Myanmar from 11–17 July. This tournament organized by the Asian Badminton Confederation, and there were 24 countries and regions with more than 350 players and officials participated in the Championships.

The 2017 Badminton Asia Junior Championships is the 20th edition of the Asia continental junior championships to crown the best U-19 badminton players across Asia. This tournament was held in Jakarta, Indonesia between 22–30 July 2017. There were 23 countries across Asia competing in this tournament.

Joanne Quay Swee Ling is a Malaysian former badminton player. Quay was the gold medalist at the 1998 World Junior Championships in the mixed doubles event partnered with Chan Chong Ming. She and Chan also won the silver medal in Asian Junior Championships. She was part of the national team that won the women's team silver medal at the 1998 Commonwelath Games. Quay left the Badminton Association of Malaysia in 2004 and joined the Kuala Lumpur Racquet Club (KLRC). She then went on to study at the Leeds Metropolitan University majoring in sports business management. As a Leeds Met Carnegie, she took part in badminton competition, and at the 2009 BUCS Championships, she won double titles in the women's and mixed doubles event. Quay now works as BAM’s high performance manager.

Kim Dae-sung is a South Korean badminton player. Kim who was educated at the Miryang high school, won the silver medals at the 2002 Asian Junior Championships in the boys' doubles and team events. He also part of the national junior team that won the silver medal at the World Junior Championships, and clinched the bronze medal in the mixed doubles event. The Inha University alumni joined the Suwon city team in 2009, and became the captain of that team. Kim won the men's doubles title at the 2009 National Championships partnered with Yoo Yeon-seong. In the international level, he was the men's doubles champion at the 2015 Mongolia International tournament.

Jeon Jun-bum is a South Korean badminton player. Born in Jeonju, Jeon has shown his talent in doubles category when he won the Dutch and German Junior boys' doubles title in 2003. Jeon who was educated at the Jeonju Life Science high school, was part of the Korean national junior team that won the silver medal at the 2004 Asian Junior Championships in the boys' team event, also clinched the silver medal in the boys' doubles event partnered with Yoo Yeon-seong. At the same year, he also competed at the World Junior Championships, clinched the silver medal in the mixed team event and a bronze medal in the boys' doubles event. Jeon affiliated with the Wonkwang University, he won his first senior international title at the 2006 Mongolia Satellite tournament, and claimed the World Grand Prix title at the Vietnam Open.

Kang Hae-won is a South Korean badminton player who affiliated with the Samsung Electro-Mechanics team since 2009. She won the bronze medal at the 2004 Asian Junior Championships in the mixed doubles event partnered with Lee Yong-dae, also claimed the silver medal in the girls' team event. Born in Jeju, Kang educated at the Incheon National University, won the 2008 National University Championships in the women's singles and doubles event. At the 55th National Summer Championships in 2012, she claimed triple titles by winning the women's singles, doubles, and team event. Kang was part of the national women's team that won the bronze medal at the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong.

Kim Min-seo is a South Korean badminton player. Kim graduated from the Incheon National University, and affiliated with the Samsung Electro-Mechanics team in 2010. She was part of the Korean junior team that won the silver medals at the 2004 Asian Junior Championships in the girls' team event, and World Junior Championships in the mixed team event. Kim competed at the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong, winning the bronze medal in the women's team event. At the 2010 Australian Open Kim captured two titles in the women's and mixed doubles event.

Haw Chiou Hwee is a Malaysian badminton player. She was part of the Malaysia junior team that won the silver medal at the 2005 Asian Junior Championships in the girls' team event after defeated by the Chinese team in the final. She claimed the women's doubles title at the 2006 National Grand Prix finals partnered with Julia Wong Pei Xian. She teamed with Lim Pek Siah, and won the international title at the 2007 Victorian and Malaysia International tournament.

The 2018 Badminton Asia Junior Championships is the 21st edition of the Asia continental junior championships to crown the best U-19 badminton players across Asia. This tournament was held in Bintaro, Jakarta, Indonesia between 14–22 July 2018.
