The 2017 TCU Horned Frogs baseball team represented Texas Christian University during the 2017 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Horned Frogs played their home games at Charlie & Marie Lupton Baseball Stadium as a member of the Big 12 Conference. They were led by head coach Jim Schlossnagle, the winningest coach in TCU baseball history, in his 14th year at TCU.
The Horned Frogs entered the 2017 season on the heels of three consecutive trips to the College World Series. [1] The 2016 TCU Horned Frogs baseball team notched a 38–14 (15–9) regular season record to finish third in the Big 12 Conference standings. [2] In the postseason, the Horned Frogs won the Big 12 tournament Championship with wins over Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas and West Virginia, [3] were selected as one of sixteen NCAA Regional Tournament hosts for the third year in a row and the sixth time in eight years, [4] swept through the Fort Worth Regional with wins over Oral Roberts, Gonzaga and Arizona State; [5] advanced to the Super Regional round of the Tournament for the third straight year, where they faced #4 National Seed Texas A&M in College Station, TX for the best-of-three series; [6] won the College Station Super Regional after an 8–2 win, 1–7 loss and 4–1 win; and advanced to their third consecutive College World Series. [7] At the 2016 CWS, the Frogs notched a 2–2 record, winning their first two games over Texas Tech [8] and Coastal Carolina [9] before losing two consecutive games to Coastal Carolina and being eliminated from the tournament. Coming off three straight College World Series appearances in 2014, 2015 and 2016, losing only four players to graduation and the Draft, and adding a highly ranked recruiting class, the 2017 Horned Frogs were projected as one of the "Eight for Omaha" in July 2016 by Baseball America, [27] D1 Baseball [28] and Perfect Game. The Horned Frogs started the 2017 season as the unanimous preseason #1 club. For the third straight year, TCU was picked to finish first in the Big 12 Conference. [30]
TCU returns its entire coaching staff from the Frogs' 2014, 2015 and 2016 College World Series seasons. After leading the Frogs to their third consecutive College World Series and being named Baseball America's 2016 National Coach of the Year, [31] [32] Jim Schlossnagle, the winningest coach in TCU Horned Frogs baseball history, inked a six-year contract extension worth over $1 million per year, [33] and assistants Shane Mosiello and Kirk Saarloos inked multi-year contract extensions. The TCU Horned Frogs are the athletic teams that represent Texas Christian University. The 18 varsity teams participate in NCAA Division I and in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for football, competing mostly in the Big 12 Conference. The school was a founding member of the Southwest Conference and was a member of the Western Athletic Conference, Conference USA (CUSA), and the Mountain West Conference before joining the Big 12. Two TCU teams participate outside the Big 12 in sports not sponsored by that conference. The rifle team competes in the Patriot Rifle Conference, and the beach volleyball team moved to CUSA for 2023–24 after having been in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association.

Daniel "Sonny" Dykes is an American football coach, and a former college baseball player. He is currently the head football coach at Texas Christian University (TCU), and previously served in the same role at Southern Methodist University (SMU) from 2018 to 2021, the University of California, Berkeley from 2013 to 2016, and Louisiana Tech University from 2010 to 2012. In his first season at TCU, he led the Horned Frogs to a win in the semifinal and an appearance in the National Championship game.
Kenneth Wade Hill Jr. is an American football coach and former quarterback who is currently the associate head coach and running backs coach at Incarnate Word. He previously played for the Texas A&M Aggies and TCU Horned Frogs. In his first start with the Aggies, he broke Johnny Manziel's school single-game passing yards record with 511 yards.

They finished the season 24–15, 6–12 in Big 12 play to finish in a tie for seventh place. They defeated Oklahoma and Kansas in the Big 12 tournament before losing in the semifinals to Iowa State. They received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Fresno State, Iowa, and Richmond to advance to the semifinals at Madison Square Garden. At MSG, they defeated UCF to advance to the NIT finals where they beat Georgia Tech to become the 2017 NIT champions.

TCU compiled a perfect 12–0 regular season record; its first undefeated regular season since 2010. After an overtime loss in the 2022 Big 12 Championship Game against Kansas State by a score of 31–28, TCU was selected as the third seed in the four-team College Football Playoff. In the semifinal round, TCU beat #2 Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl. They defeated Michigan by a score of 51–45, becoming the first Big 12 team to win a College Football Playoff game as well as make the CFP National Championship game. TCU lost the National Championship game to the Georgia Bulldogs by a score of 65–7 and finished the season ranked #2 in both the AP and Coaches Polls.
