Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock. Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to 70 miles per hour (110 km/h).
The Speedway World Cup is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams held in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The competition was held annually until 2017 when it was replaced by the Speedway of Nations pairs event. The Speedway World Cup returned in 2023 and will be held every three years.

It was won by Sweden, the first time they have achieved success since 2004. They beat hosts and defending champions Denmark by two points, while Poland edged out Australia to claim third.

It was won by Denmark. They beat hosts and defending champions Poland by a single point, with Australia a further point back in third.
The 2016 Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the sixteenth FIM Speedway World Cup, the annual international speedway world championship tournament. It took place between 23 July and 30 July 2016 and involved nine national teams. It was won by Poland, the first time they achieved success since 2013, and the seventh time in total. They beat hosts Great Britain by seven points, while defending champions Sweden finished third with Australia in fourth.
The Speedway of Nations is a motorcycle speedway event for national teams, held each year in a different country. The first edition of the competition in the current format took place in 2018. It was the first time an official FIM international pairs competition was staged since the World Pairs Championship ceased in 1993. Great Britain are the current champions after winning in 2024. The Speedway of Nations was not held in 2023 due to the return of the Speedway World Cup, but returned to the speedway calendar in 2024 and 2025.
The 2019 Speedway of Nations was the second FIM Speedway of Nations. The competition consisted of two race-off events and a two-legged final. The event was won by Russia for the second consecutive year. They beat Poland in the Grand Final with Australia taking the bronze medal.
