The 2021 Sudirman Cup group stage was held at the Energia Areena in Vantaa, Finland, from 26 to 30 September 2021.

Contents

The group stage was the first stage of the 2021 Sudirman Cup. During the group stage, only the 2 highest-placing teams in all 4 groups advanced to the knockout stage.

Seeding

The seedings for the 16 teams were released by BWF around June 2021. [1] France and Australia originally were among the 16 teams but later on, withdrew from the competition. Thus, Finland was awarded a place as the host. New Zealand who originally have been given a place to replace Australia later on declined. In the end, French Polynesia was awarded the place for Oceania, replacing Australia, due to their performance at the 2019 Pacific Games. [2]

The group stage of the 2017 Sudirman Cup was the first stage of the competition. It began on 21 May and ended on 25 May, held at Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre in Gold Coast, Australia. The top two teams from each group advanced to the final knockout stage to compete in a single-elimination tournament. The teams from group 2 and 3 advanced to the final classification stage to compete in a single-elimination tournament.

The 2018 Thomas Cup qualification process is a series of tournaments organised by the five BWF confederations to decide 14 of the 16 teams which will play in the 2018 Thomas Cup, with Thailand qualifying automatically as hosts, and Denmark qualifying automatically as trophy holder.

The group stage of the 2019 Sudirman Cup was the first stage of the competition. It was held at Guangxi Sports Center in Nanning, China, from 19 to 22 May. For Group 1, the top two teams from each group advanced to the final knockout stage to compete in a single-elimination tournament. Teams from group 2 and 3 play round robin in respective subgroup and advanced to classification round to determine the overall placings, meanwhile teams from group 4 play in a single round robin format for final placings.

The 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament were played at Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time that Denmark hosted the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Europe since England 1982.
