The 2022 BWF World Tour Finals (officially known as the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2022 for sponsorship reasons) was the final tournament of the 2022 BWF World Tour. It was scheduled to be held from 14 to 18 December 2022 in Guangzhou, China but was later moved to Bangkok, Thailand, and held a week earlier – from 7 to 11 December 2022 – due to the COVID-19 pandemic in China. [1] [2] It had a total prize of $1,500,000.

Contents

Tournament

The 2022 BWF World Tour was the fifth edition of the BWF World Tour Finals and was originally scheduled to be organized by the Guangzhou Sports Bureau, Guangzhou Sports Competitions Centre, Guangzhou Badminton Administrative Centre, and Guangzhou Badminton Association. It would have been hosted by the Chinese Badminton Association and Guangzhou Municipal Government with sanction from the BWF.

Due to the uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in China, the tournament was relocated to Thailand. [2] It was then hosted by the Badminton Association of Thailand.

Venue

This international tournament was originally planned to be held at the Tianhe Gymnasium in Tianhe, Guangzhou, China. It was later relocated to Nimibutr Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, due to the circumstances in regard of the COVID-19 pandemic in China. [2]

Tie-breaking criteria

Players or pairs was ranked according to points (1 point for a win, 0 points for a loss). If two players/pairs were tied on points, the result of head-to-head match among the tied players/pairs was used to determine the rankings. [4] If more than two players/pairs were tied, and after applying the head-to-head criteria above, a subset of players/pairs were still tied, the criteria above was reapplied exclusively to this subset of players/pairs;

  1. Game difference in all group matches; if two players/pairs still tied, then reapply the head-to-head criteria above;
  2. Point difference in all group matches; if two players/pairs still tied, then reapply the head-to-head criteria above;
  3. Drawing of lots if three or more players/pairs still tied.

Apriyani Rahayu is an Indonesian badminton player specializing in doubles. She won gold at the 2019 SEA Games, and two bronze medals at the World Championships in 2018 and 2019. Rahayu also won bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games in the women's team and doubles with her former partner Greysia Polii.

Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti is an Indonesian badminton player affiliated with Djarum club. She won the gold medal in the mixed doubles at the 2017 Asian Junior Championships, and in the women's doubles at the 2021 SEA Games.

The 2019 Sudirman Cup was the 16th edition of the Sudirman Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF), since its inception in 1989. The tournament was played in Nanning, China, between 19 and 26 May 2019. Korea is the defending champion.

The BWF World Tour is a Grade 2 badminton tournament series, sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). It is a competition open to the top world ranked players in singles and doubles. The competition was announced on 19 March 2017 and came into effect starting from 2018, replacing the BWF Super Series, which was held from 2007 to 2017.

The BWF World Tour Finals, officially HSBC BWF World Tour Finals, which succeeds BWF Super Series Finals, is an annual badminton tournament which is held every December of a year where the players with the most points from that calendar year's events of the BWF World Tour compete for total prize money of at least US$ 1,500,000.

Nita Violina Marwah is an Indonesian badminton player affiliated with Exist Jakarta club. The 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament were played at Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time that Denmark hosted the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Europe since England 1982. It was due to be played on 15–23 August 2020, but on 29 April 2020 it was postponed to the 3–11 October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 15 September 2020 it was again postponed and on 21 December 2020 it was announced that it was postponed to 9–17 October 2021.
