The 2022 FIBA U18 African Championship was an international under-18 basketball competition that was held in Antananarivo, Madagascar from August 4 to 14. [1] [2]

Contents

The tournament, which is also the 21st edition of the biennial competition, qualified the top two teams to represent FIBA Africa in the 2023 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Hungary. This is the second time Madagascar has hosted the tournament since 2014. [1]

Preliminary round

The draw took place and the final rosters were confirmed on 3 August 2022, a day before the start of the tournament.

Tanzania was supposed to be part of Group A, however they were replaced by Nigeria. Unfortunately, Nigeria also backed out, leaving Group A with only 4 teams. [13]

The tournament was hosted by Libya after Nigeria, the original host, withdrew from hosting after not conforming to FIBA Africa guidelines.

The FIBA Africa Championship 2009 Qualification occurred on various dates between 4 August 2008 and 31 May 2009. It was used to determine which African national basketball teams would qualify for the FIBA Africa Championship 2009. Teams competed with other teams in their respective "zones" for a spot in the Championship tournament.

It was used to determine which African national basketball teams would qualify for the FIBA Africa Championship 2011. <span class="mw-page-title-main">2018 FIBA U18 African Championship</span> International basketball competition

The 2018 FIBA U18 African Championship was the 19th edition, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Mali from 24 August to 2 September 2018 in Bamako. The finalists of this championship earned the right to represent the continent at the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Greece.

The 2018 FIBA U18 Women's African Championship was the 14th edition, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The tournament was hosted by Mozambique from August 10 to 19, 2018 in Maputo.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">AfroBasket 2021 qualification</span> International qualification tournament

The AfroBasket 2021 qualification was a basketball competition that was played from January 2020 to July 2021, to determine the fifteen FIBA Africa nations who would join the automatically qualified host Rwanda at the AfroBasket 2021 final tournament.

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for the FIBA Africa region, began in November 2021 and concluded in February 2023. The process determined the five African teams that would participate at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

The 2021 Women's Afrobasket qualification occurred on various dates on 2021 to determine which African national basketball teams would qualify for the 2021 Women's Afrobasket. Teams compete with other teams in their respective "zones" for a spot in the championship tournament.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 FIBA U18 Women's African Championship</span> International basketball competition

The 2022 FIBA U18 Women's African Championship was an international under-18 basketball competition that was held in Antsirabe, Madagascar from August 5 to 13.

The 2023 Women's Afrobasket qualification was played on various dates in 2023 to determine the seven teams who qualified for the 2023 Women's Afrobasket. Teams competed with other teams in their respective "zones" for a spot in the championship tournament. There were seven zones in total.

The AfroBasket 2025 qualification is a basketball competition that is being played from February 2024 to February 2025, to determine the fifteen FIBA Africa nations who will join the automatically qualified host Angola at the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 finals tournament.
