2022 Motocross des Nations

The 2022 Motocross des Nations was a motocross race held on 24 and 25 November 2022 in Buchanan, United States.^[1] This was the fifth time that the event was held in the United States and the second time at this track. Italy went into the event as the defending champions after winning their third title in 2021.

Entry list

Start numbers were allocated based on the team finishes from the 2021 competition. This allocated number plates 1, 2 & 3 to Italy (1st), 4, 5 & 6 to the Netherlands (2nd) and 7, 8 & 9 to the United Kingdom (3rd). Russia, who finished fourth in the 2021 competition, was not allowed to compete after the FIM suspended all Russian competitors following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.^[2]

The official entry list was published on 1 September.^[3]

Thirty-four teams competed at the event, three more than in the previous edition. Of these teams, 19 competed in 2021, with increasing travel costs seeing many of the smaller European countries unable to attend. In addition to Russia, Austria and Denmark who finished 9th and 10th in the previous edition, made it 3 of the top-10 countries missing for 2022. Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Portugal, Ukraine and Greece were the other nations absent from 2021. Slovenia not attending meant that 2022 MXGP world champion Tim Gajser would not race, whilst Portugal missed the event for the first time since 1993.

However, many countries made their return to the event after being absent in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Home nation United States returned for the first time since 2019, so did Australia, Brazil, Japan, New Zealand and Norway. Mexico appeared for the first time since the 2018 edition, the last to be held in the U.S., as were the Philippines (making their third appearance) and Israel. Ecuador made their third appearance, their last being in 2010, as was Chile, whose last event came in 2007. Guam and Honduras made their debuts at the Motocross des Nations in 2022.

To round out the entry list, two combined teams appeared for the first time, organised by two of the FIM's continental federations, with the intention of fielding riders from smaller nations who cannot afford to send a full team. FIM Latin America hosts riders from Bolivia, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, which meant the first appearance of a Bolivian rider at the MXDN. FIM Europe meanwhile hosted riders from Hungary, Czech Republic and Ukraine.

The Motocross des Nations is an annual team motocross race, where riders representing their country meet at what is billed as the "Olympics of Motocross". The event has been staged since 1947, where the team of Bill Nicholson, Fred Rist and Bob Ray, representing Great Britain, took home the Chamberlain Trophy for the first time.

The 2017 Motocross des Nations was a motocross race held on 1 October and 2 October 2017. The event was held at the Matterley Basin circuit, near Winchester, Great Britain. The event was originally meant to be held at Glen Helen Raceway in California, but had to be rescheduled due to concerns about crowd size.

The 2018 European Motocross Championship was the 30th European Motocross Championship season since it was revived in 1988. It included 16 events and 5 different classes. The 2019 Motocross des Nations was a motocross race held on 28 September and 29 September 2019 at the Assen circuit, in The Netherlands. Motocross des Nations was last held in The Netherlands in 2004 but never at this venue.

It will start in Italy on 25 April, and will end at a yet to be announced location on 31 October. All rounds will act as support classes at the European rounds of the 2021 MXGP.

The 2021 Motocross des Nations is a motocross race to be held on 25 and 26 September 2021 in Mantova, Italy. The race usually takes place after the MXGP season, however because the 2021 GP schedule runs from April through November, the MXoN will take place in the middle of the MXGP series.

The 2022 FIM Women's Motocross World Championship is the 18th Women's Motocross World Championship season. Courtney Duncan is the defending champion, after taking her third title in 2021.

It started in Great Britain on 20 February and ended in Turkey on 4 September. All rounds acted as support classes at the European rounds of the 2022 MXGP.

Harri Kullas is a Finnish-born Estonian professional motocross racer. Kullas has had a long international career that has seen him compete in the FIM Motocross World Championship in both the MX2 and MXGP classes.

The 2023 Motocross des Nations is a motocross race to be held on 7 and 8 October 2023 in Ernée, France. This is the third time that the event is held at this track. The event was due to take place here in 2020, but got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. USA goes into the event as the defending champions after winning their twentythird title in 2022.

Lucas Coenen is a Belgian professional Motocross racer. Coenen has competed in the Motocross World Championship since 2022 in the MX2 class and from 2025 will compete in the MXGP class.

Kevin Horgmo is a Norwegian professional motocross racer. He has been competing in the FIM Motocross World Championship since 2019. In 2023, Horgmo won his first race at World Championship-level in the MX2 class.

Alberto Forato is an Italian professional Motocross racer. He has been competing in the FIM Motocross World Championship since 2019.

Benoît Paturel is a French professional Motocross racer. Paturel was part of the French team that won the 2016 Motocross des Nations.

The 2024 Motocross des Nations was a motocross race held on 5 and 6 October 2024 at Matterley Basin, United Kingdom. This was the third time that the event was held at this track.

Camden McLellan is a South African professional Motocross racer. McLellan has competed in the FIM Motocross World Championship since making two wildcard appearances in the 2022 season.

Arminas Jasikonis is a Lithuanian former professional Motocross racer. Jasikonis competed in the FIM Motocross World Championship from 2016 to 2023. During his career he was a factory rider for Suzuki and Husqvarna, with his highest overall result in the final standings being seventh during the 2019 season.
