The 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships were held in the French commune Les Gets from 24 to 28 August 2022. [1]

Contents

Les Gets, located in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France close to the border with Switzerland, previously hosted the 2004 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships. [2] The Les Gets Bike Park, which is located within the Portes du Soleil ski area, has 128 km (80 mi) of marked trails and provides for downhill, cross-country, freestyle, freeride, and e-mountain biking. [3]

In addition, a team relay was held restricted to one team of six riders per country. The default team composition was one man elite, one woman elite, one man U23, one man juniors, one woman U23 and one woman juniors, but the rules also allowed for substitutions. [4]

Men's events

The elite downhill saw an all-French podium, with Loïc Bruni winning his fifth elite downhill world championship. [5] In the short track, New Zealand's Sam Gaze and the incumbent American world champion, Christopher Blevins, were competing for the title when both aimed for the same line at the last rock garden. Blevins crashed and eventually crossed the line in 16th place while Gaze took the title. [6] [7]

Team event

Eighteen teams competed in the team event, with seventeen of those finishing. The French team was in the lead when their fifth rider crashed and had to finish the lap standing after having lost the saddle, dropping to fifth place. Switzerland won the world title ahead of Italy and the United States. New Zealand had been in third position when their third rider crashed; the team did not finish. [16] [17]

The 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup was a series of races in Olympic Cross-Country (XCO), Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE), and Downhill (DHI). Each discipline had an Elite Men and an Elite Women category. There were also men's and women's under-23 categories in the XCO and junior men's and women's categories in the DHI. The cross-country series had six rounds and the downhill series had seven rounds.

The 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships was the 28th edition of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. As in 2016, the championships in the various disciplines were held at separate events. The world championships in four-cross were held at Val di Sole, Italy, on 24 and 25 August 2017, alongside UCI World Cup events in cross-country and downhill. The world championships in cross-country and downhill were held in Cairns, Australia, from 5 to 10 September 2017.

The 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships was the 29th edition of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. It was held from 5 to 9 September 2018 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The four-cross competitions were held in Val di Sole, Italy from 5 to 6 July 2018

The 2020 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships was held in Leogang, Austria, from 5–11 October 2020. This was the 31st edition of the most prestigious mountain bike event on the calendar, held annually since 1990.

The 2021 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships were held from 25 to 29 August 2021 in Val di Sole, Italy.

Izabela Yankova is a Bulgarian downhill mountain biker. Yankova won the 2021 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in the Junior Women's category. She is the first Bulgarian cyclist to win a World Championship event. Yankova competed in the Women's High Performance Sport category at the IXS European Downhill Cup, clinching the series overall at the final in Maribor, Slovenia.

The 2023 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships were being held from 3 to 12 August 2023 in Glentress Forest, Scotland as part of the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships.
