An outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus occurred in South Korea from May 2015 to July 2015. The virus, which causes Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), was a newly emerged betacoronavirus that was first identified in a patient from Saudi Arabia in April 2012. From the outbreak, a total of 186 cases have been infected, with a death toll of 38.

Day6 is a South Korean pop rock band under the label JYP Entertainment. Hwang Min-hyun, known mononymously as Minhyun, is a South Korean singer, songwriter and actor. Hwang Minhyun was discovered by South Korean entertainment agency Pledis Entertainment at the age of fifteen. After two years of training, Hwang debuted as a member of boy group NU'EST in 2012. In 2017, he represented Pledis Entertainment in the survival series Produce 101 Season 2 along with three members of NU'EST, with him finishing in ninth place and becoming a member of Wanna One.

The 2021 South Korean by-elections were held in South Korea on 7 April 2021. The National Election Commission announced on 2 March 2021, that the by-elections would be held for 21 public offices or electoral districts, including 2 Metropolitan mayors, 2 Municipal mayors, 8 Metropolitan Council constituencies, and 9 Municipal Council constituencies. Candidate registration ran from 18 to 19 March, and the list of candidates was confirmed on 26 March.

A by-election was held on 9 March 2022 for the National Assembly seat for Sangdang. It was called following the election annulment of the incumbent, Jeong Jeong-soon, on 1 September 2021. A part of the March 2022 by-elections, this by-election will be held together with the 2022 presidential election.
