The 2024 Global T20 Canada will be the fourth edition of Global T20 Canada, a Twenty20 professional cricket tournament that will be played at the TD Cricket Arena in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The tournament will begin on 25 July and will conclude on 11 August 2024. [1] Montreal Tigers are the defending champions. [2]

Background

On 10 June 2024, it was officially announced that Global T20 Canada would return for a fourth season in 2024, being held from 25 July to 11 August at TD Cricket Arena at CAA Centre in Brampton. [1] On 21 June 2024, the players draft was held to determine the lineups of the six city-based franchises for the 2024 season.

Mississauga Panthers were renamed as Bangla Tigers Mississauga. [3]

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi’s respective requests for no-objection certificate to participate in the league were declined by the Pakistan Cricket Board citing the board’s workload management policy. [4] [5]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Global T20 Canada</span> T20 cricket tournament in Canada

The Global T20 Canada is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament that is played in Canada. The first edition of the tournament took place during June and July 2018 with six teams competing. Each team featured four local Canadian cricketers in each squad, along with international players. The inaugural tournament in 2018 took place at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City, Ontario, while the 2019 & 2023 tournaments took place at the Brampton Sports Park in proximity to the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario. Bombay Sports Limited are the owners of the league, and also the organizers of the Euro T20 Slam that was set to begin on 30 August 2019.

Muhammad Abbas Afridi is a Pakistani cricketer who plays for Multan Sultans and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.He made his international debut for Pakistan National Cricket team on 12 January 2024 against New Zealand.

The 2019 Global T20 Canada was the second edition of the Global T20 Canada, a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament that was played at the CAA Centre, Brampton in Ontario, Canada. It started on 25 July 2019, and concluded with the final on 11 August 2019. It was slightly later in the calendar than the previous tournament, to avoid clashing with the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Vancouver Knights were the defending champions. A new team named New York Legends were announced to replace Cricket West Indies B Team. However, the idea was later cancelled, and the Brampton Wolves were named as the sixth franchise team in June 2019.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup final</span> Cricket match

The 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup final was a Twenty20 International cricket match played at MCG in Melbourne, Australia on 13 November 2022 to determine the winner of the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. It was played between England and Pakistan, with both the teams eyeing their second ICC Men's T20 World Cup title. England won the match by 5 wickets to win the title for the second time. Having also won the 2019 Cricket World Cup Final, England became the first men's team to hold the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup titles at the same time.

The 2023 Global T20 Canada was the third edition of Global T20 Canada, a Twenty20 professional cricket tournament that was played at the TD Cricket Arena in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The tournament began on 20 July 2023, and concluded on 6 August 2023. It was the first time the tournament has been held since 2019, as subsequent editions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Pakistan national cricket team is one of the full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), they are nicknamed as the Shaheens. The team has qualified for all the eight editions of the tournament, and were the champions of the second edition of the T20 World Cup in 2009, after defeating Sri Lanka in the final. Besides this victory, they have been the runners-up twice in 2007 and 2022 losing to India and England respectively. Pakistan have reached the semifinals in 2010, 2012 and 2021. In eight editions that they have contested, the team has a win-loss record of 28–18 in 47 matches.
