The 2024 Tennessee Volunteers baseball team represented the University of Tennessee in the 2024 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Volunteers played their home games at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Contents

The Volunteers won the College World Series, defeating the Texas A&M Aggies in the championship series. In addition to winning the first national championship in program history, Tennessee tied the NCAA record for most wins in a season (60). They were the first number one seed to win the College World Series since 1999 and the first team to win 60 games since 1989. [2] [3] [4] Tennessee also became the first SEC team in history to win 60 games in a season, [4] and the first team in college baseball history with 5 players to record 20+ home runs in a single season. [5] [6] Tennessee won the SEC East, the SEC regular season title, the SEC Tournament title, a regional title, and a super regional title. The Volunteers would go 5-1 in Omaha by recording wins over Florida State (2), North Carolina (1), and Texas A&M (2).

Previous season

The Volunteers finished 44–22, 16–14 in the SEC to finish in fourth place in the East division. They won the 2023 Clemson Regional and finished 3–0. The Vols then played Southern Mississippi in the Hattiesburg Super Regional, winning 2–1 in the three-game series. At the College World Series they went 1–2.

The Tennessee Volunteers baseball team represents the University of Tennessee in NCAA Division I college baseball. Along with most other Tennessee athletic teams, the baseball team participates in the Eastern division of the Southeastern Conference. The Volunteers play all on-campus home games at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Volunteers are currently coached by three-time National Coach of the Year and one-time Southeastern Conference Baseball Coach of the Year, Tony Vitello. During Vitello's tenure, Tennessee has quickly become one of the premier programs in all of college baseball. From 2021 to 2024, Tennessee amassed the most overall wins, the most NCAA tournament wins, the most home runs, as well as the highest winning percentage in the country. The Vols won their first College World Series in 2024, becoming just the second team to win the title as the #1 overall seed and the first to do it since 1999. They also became the SEC's first team with 60 wins and the fourth to win the regular season title, the SEC tournament title, and the national championship in the same season.

SEC TV was a syndicated package featuring live broadcasts of college football and basketball events from the Southeastern Conference. It was owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television and shown in more than 50 percent of households in the United States, mostly Southeastern United States markets. SEC TV's football games typically aired in the noon eastern slot that was former home to the Jefferson-Pilot/Raycom Sports SEC game of the week. Games were shown locally on broadcast stations, regional sports networks, as well as on ESPN GamePlan, ESPN Full Court, and WatchESPN.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tony Vitello</span> American baseball coach (born 1978)

Anthony Gregory "Tony" Vitello is an American college baseball head coach and former infielder. Vitello has been the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers baseball team since June 7, 2017. Since taking over as head coach, Vitello has led Tennessee back to national prominence and has helped establish Tennessee baseball as an SEC and national power. Vitello's teams have made five NCAA regionals, four NCAA super regionals (2021–2024), and three College World Series appearances, winning the College World Series National Championship in 2024 over Texas A&M for the Volunteers’ first-ever national title.
