Xi Jinping's visit to France, Serbia and Hungary was a state visit of President and General Secretary Xi Jinping of China to France, Serbia and Hungary from May 5-10, 2024. [1] [2]
In April 2024, Chinese Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission Wang Yi communicated with Emmanuel Bonne, the diplomatic advisor to the President of France by telephone on a trip for "adding new connotations to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries". [3] [4]
President Xi Jinping's trip aims to coincide with the United States bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade on May 7, 1999, and public opinion has focused on China's attitude and actions toward NATO as reflected in the event. [5]
On April 24, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in Beijing. [6] Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's chief of staff Gergely Gulyas told a press conference on April 25, 2024, that China's President Xi Jinping will visit Hungary on May 8-10. [7]
On the morning of May 5, President Xi Jinping left Beijing on a special plane for a state visit to the three countries. Accompanying Xi on the trip are: President Xi Jinping's wife Peng Liyuan; Cai Qi (member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and Director of the General Office of the Chinese Communist Party), Wang Yi (member of the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs), and others. It also was the Chinese paramount leader's first visit to the United Kingdom since 2005 and the second Chinese state leader to visit the UK after Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's visit between 16 and 19 June 2014. The August 1 Medal is the highest military medal of the People's Republic of China bestowed on military personnel of China. The bestowal is decided by the Central Military Commission and presented by the Chairman of the Central Military Commission. According to law, this medal is awarded to "military personnel who have made great contributions and established outstanding meritorious service in safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and promoting the modernization of national defense and the military, and have had a profound impact on the country and the entire military." The Kim–Xi meetings were a series of summits between North Korea and China during 2018 and 2019. North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un secretly met with Chinese paramount leader Xi Jinping on March 25–28, 2018. Xi made a classified invitation to Kim to visit China, after which Kim visited Beijing and used his bullet proof train to travel to the three-day meeting. It is his first known out-of-country diplomatic trip since taking power. Kim and Xi had a second surprise meeting on May 7–8, 2018 in the city of Dalian. Kim and Xi had a third surprise meeting on June 19–20, 2018. They had a fourth surprise meeting on January 7–10, 2019 in Beijing, followed by a fifth official DPRK and China summit June 20–21, 2019 in the Forbidden City, Pyongyang.
The July 1 Medal is the highest honorary medal of the Chinese Communist Party. The bestowal is decided by the Central Committee and presented by the General Secretary of the Central Committee. It was established on 22 July 2017. According to the party's bylaw, the medal is bestowed on "party members who have made outstanding contributions and created valuable spiritual wealth in the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the new great project of party construction."

Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, officially the "General Secretary Xi Jinping's Thought on Diplomacy", is the current diplomatic and foreign policy doctrine of the People's Republic of China. It is related to the larger Xi Jinping Thought, which is derived from the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Xi Jinping. According to Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy is "the fundamental guideline for China's diplomatic work is an epoch-making milestone in the diplomatic theory of New China." The main point of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy is to orient as much of diplomacy as possible to the bilateral level, while still supporting the formal architecture of the international system. In terms of China's foreign policy, Xi Jinping's "Major Country Diplomacy" doctrine has replaced the earlier Deng Xiaoping era slogan of "keep a low profile and build up power" and has legitimized a more active role for China on the world stage, particularly with regards to reform of the international order, engaging in open ideological competition with the West, and assuming a greater responsibility for global affairs in accordance with China's rising power and status.

The 2023 France–China summit was a three-day state visit by Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, to China from April 5 to 7, 2023. It was Macron's first visit to China since the COVID-19 pandemic and his third since taking office in 2017. He was accompanied by a delegation of more than 50 CEOs and met with members of the French business community in China. He also met with Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and President of China, and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, to discuss various issues. By recalling the solid foundation of China-France relations and the friendship between the two peoples, the two heads of state had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations, China-EU relations and major international and regional issues, especially the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and China's potential role as a mediator between Russia and the West. The visit was seen as an attempt to "reconnect" with China after three years of its zero-Covid policy and despite Beijing's increasing benevolence to Russia in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
China-Central Asia Summit is a diplomatic summit held by the leaders of the People's Republic of China and the five Central Asian countries. The first China-Central Asia Summit was held at the Xi'an International Conference Center in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province from May 18 to 19, 2023. Xi Jinping, the paramount leader of China, presided over the summit, and the heads of state of the five Central Asian countries attended the summit.
