Surat is a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The word Surat literally means face in Gujarati and Hindi. Located on the banks of the river Tapti near its confluence with the Arabian Sea, it used to be a large seaport. It is now the commercial and economic center in South Gujarat, and one of the largest urban areas of western India. It has well-established diamond and textile industry, and is a major supply centre for apparels and accessories. About 90% of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in Surat. It is the second largest city in Gujarat after Ahmedabad and the eighth largest city by population and ninth largest urban agglomeration in India. It is the administrative capital of the Surat district. In recent years, Surat has been noted for achieving a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering for a yoga session at one place where 153,000 people joined the event on International Yoga Day.
The Right to Information (RTI) is an act of the Parliament of India which sets out the rules and procedures regarding citizens' right to information. It replaced the former Freedom of Information Act, 2002. Under the provisions of RTI Act, any citizen of India may request information from a "public authority" which is required to reply expeditiously or within thirty days. In case of matter involving a petitioner's life and liberty, the information has to be provided within 48 hours. The Act also requires every public authority to computerize their records for wide dissemination and to proactively publish certain categories of information so that the citizens need minimum recourse to request for information formally.

The university was established in 2013 by the Lakulish International Fellowship's Enlightenment Mission through The Gujarat Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2013. It provides higher education courses in Yoga.
Sankalchand Patel University (SPU) is a private university located in Visnagar, Mehsana district, Gujarat, India. The university was established in 2016 by the Nootan Sarva Vidyalaya Kelvani Mandal through The Gujarat Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2016 which also established Anant National University, Marwadi University and Plastindia International University.
Swarrnim Startup & Innovation University (SSIU) is a private university located in the village Bhoyan Rathod, in Gandhinagar district, Gujarat, India. The university was established in 2017 by the Gaya Prasad Jain Charitable Trust through the Gujarat Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2017, which also established P P Savani University, Karnavati University and Indrashil University.
Indrashil University is private university located in near the village Rajpur in Mahesana district, Gujarat, India. The university was established in 2017 through the Gujarat Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2017, which also established P P Savani University, Karnavati University and Swarnim Startup & Innovation University.
Atmiya University is a private university located in Rajkot, Gujarat, India. It was established in March 2018 by Sarvodaya Kelavni Samaj under Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2018, after the Bill was approved in March of that year.
Gokul Global University (GGU) is a private university located in Sidhpur, Patan district, Gujarat, India. It was established on 23 March 2018 by the Gokul Foundation under Gujarat Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2018, after the Bill was approved by the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in February 2018.
