Shri Govind Guru University is a state university located at Godhra, Gujarat, India. It was established in 2015 by the Shri Govind Guru University Act, 2015 of the Government of Gujarat [2] and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2016. [3] The university has jurisdiction over the districts of Panchmahal, Mahisagar, Dahod, Chhota Udaipur and Vadodara in eastern Gujarat [4] with 122 affiliated colleges. [5] It is named after social and religious reformer Govind Guru.

Indumati Chimanlal Sheth was an Indian independence activist, politician, social worker and educationist from Gujarat. Born in Ahmedabad and influenced by Mahatma Gandhi, she participated in the independence movement and later served as a deputy education minister of the Bombay State and education minister of Gujarat. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1970 for her social work.

Govind Ram Nirmalkar (1935–2014) was an Indian actor and folk theatre artist, known for his contributions to the Nacha folk theatre of Chhattisgarh. His portrayal of the protagonist in Charan Das Chor, an award winning play by Habib Tanveer, won him critical acclaim. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2009, for his contributions to Arts. He was also a recipient of the 2012 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
