The African Handball Nations Championship is the official competition for senior national handball teams of Africa, and takes place every two years. In addition to crowning the African champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games and for World Handball Championship. Started in 1974, it is the oldest continental handball competition. The current champions are Egypt, who won the 2024 tournament in Egypt.
Only three countries have won the tournament. Tunisia, winner of the first edition, has won the title a record ten times. Egypt, with nine titles, and Algeria, with seven titles, are the only two other teams to have won the competition.
Both Morocco and Algeria were banned from hosting the African Handball Championship in 2022 and 2024, Egypt were chosen to host the tournaments instead. [1] [2]

The Africa Cup of Nations, sometimes referred to as the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations for sponsorship reasons, or simply AFCON or CAN, is the main international men's association football competition in Africa. It is sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and was first held in 1957. Since 1968, it has been held every two years, switching to odd-numbered years in 2013.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is the administrative and controlling body for association football, beach soccer, and futsal in Africa. It was established on 8 February 1957 at the Grand Hotel in Khartoum, Sudan by the national football associations of Egypt, Ethiopia, South Africa and Sudan, following formal discussions between the aforementioned associations at the FIFA Congress held on 7 June 1956 at Avenida Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Futsal Africa Cup of Nations is the main national futsal competition of the Confederation of African Football nations. It was first held in 1996 and has been played every four years. It is a qualification to FIFA Futsal World Cup.
The Arab Futsal Cup is a futsal competition for Arab nations. It was first held in 1998. Only 3 teams managed to win the cup since its foundation. Morocco is the most successful having won the title three times, followed by Egypt and Libya with two titles each.

Hicham El Guerrouj, a retired middle distance runner for Morocco, won two gold medals for Morocco at the Athletics at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Al Ahly is an Egyptian basketball club of Al Ahly SC, located in Cairo, Cairo Governorate, that plays in the Egypt Basketball Super League. Currently, two of its athletes play for the Egypt men's national basketball team. The team is a part of the multi-sports club of the same name.

The Al Ahly handball team has participated in the Egyptian Handball League since the beginning in 1960s until the present. The Championship was played under the name of the Republic League. The first championship win for the Al Ahly team in the Egyptian Handball League was in 1968 and 1969. The Al Ahly Handball Club has won the most titles in the league, 24 of which were gold medals. It participated in 6 different championships every season: the Egyptian Handball League, the Egypt cup, the Egyptian Handball Federation, the African Handball Champions League, the African Handball Cup Winners' Cup, and the African Handball Super Cup.
Zamalek Handball Club, also called "Commandos" commonly known as Zamalek H.C, or simply as Zamalek SC, is an Egyptian handball team based in Giza, Egypt. It is a part of the Zamalek SC multi sports club, and was founded on 1958. The club competes domestically in the Egyptian League and in the African Champions League It is the most successful handball club in Egypt and Africa with a record number of domestic and international titles.

It acted as the African qualifying tournament for the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship in Poland and Sweden. Originally it was scheduled to be held in Morocco from 13 to 23 January 2022.
