Ale or Alle is an administrative zone in South Ethiopia Regional State. In 2011 Ale was included in the Segen Area People's Zone. [1] Ale demanded their own district for decades and secured woreda status in 2011. Before 2011, the Ale were a minority in the then Konso and Dirashe Special Woredas. [2] Ale got Zonal status upon inauguration day of South Ethiopia Regional State in August 2023. [3] The zone is named for the Ale people, whose homeland is in the zone. Ale is bordered on the North by Gamo Zone, on the East by the Gardula Zone, West by the South Omo Zone and South by the Konso Zone. The administrative centre of Ale Zone is Kolango.

Administrative division

Currently, Ale Zone has one woreda and a city administration. These are Kolango Zuria Woreda and Kolango city administration. [4]

Harari Region is the smallest regional state in Ethiopia in both land area and population. Harari and Oromo are the two official languages of the region. The region was created by splitting the Hundane woreda from East Hararghe Zone. As a result, Harari Region is enclaved by Oromia.

Koore Zone (amaro)is a zone in South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. The people are called Koore and their language is Koorete. Amaro is one of the areas in which members of Koore nations widely live in. Koore got zonal status in August 2023 upon the formation of the South Ethiopia Regional State. In 2011, the Segen Area Peoples Zone was established, which includes Amaro woreda and the 3 former special woredas surrounding it. Located in the Great Rift Valley, koore is bordered on the south by Burji Zone, on the southwest by Konso Zone, on the west by Dirashe Zone, on the northwest by Gamo Zone and Lake Chamo, and on the north by Lake Abaya and in east and northeast by Oromia Region. It is divided into 35 kebeles. The administrative center of the woreda is Kelle. Jijola woreda, Derba Menena woreda, and Kereda are other growing municipals of the zone.

Burji Zone is one of the zones in the South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. In August 2023 Burji special Woreda got zonal status upon the formation of South Ethiopia Region. In 2011, the Segen Area Peoples Zone was established, which includes Burji woreda and the 3 former special woredas surrounding it. It is named for the Burji people, who have their homeland in this zone. Burji is bordered on the east and south by the Oromia Region, on the west by the Konso Zone, and on the north by the Amaro Zone. The administrative center of Burji is Soyama.

Dirashe Zone is one of the zones in the South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. In 2011, the Segen Area Peoples Zone was established, which includes Dirashe woreda and the 3 former special woredas surrounding it. It is named for the Dirashe people, whose homelands lie in the eastern part of this woreda. Dirashe got zonal status when the South Ethiopia Regional State formed in August 2023.

Konso is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State, Ethiopia. It was formerly a woreda. Prior to 2011, Konso was not part of any Zone in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) and was therefore considered a special woreda, an administrative subdivision which is similar to an autonomous area. In 2011, the Segen Area Peoples Zone was established, which includes Konso special woreda and the 3 former woredas surrounding it. This special woreda is named after the Konso people. Located in the Great Rift Valley, Konso is bordered on the south by the Oromia Region, on the west by the South Omo Zone, on the northwest by Alle special woreda, on the north by Dirashe special woreda, on the northeast by Amaro special woreda, and on the east by Burji special woreda. The Sagan River, which flows south then west to join the Weito, defines part of the woreda's boundary with Burji and the entire length of the boundary with the Oromia Region. The administrative center is Karati; other towns in Konso include Fasha and Sagen. After protesting by residents to become a zone for several years, Konso became a zone in November 2018.

Basketo Zone is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia, named after its inhabitants, the Basketo people. It was formerly a part of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR)'s, and because Basketo was not part of any administrative Zone in the SNNPR, it was considered a special woreda—an administrative subdivision which is similar to an autonomous area.

Gofa Zone is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. It was previously one of the 17 Zones in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia. Within the SNNPR, Gofa Zone was bordered on the south by Kamba and Daramalo woredas, on the southwest by the Debub (South) Omo Zone, on the west by the Basketo special woreda, on the northwest by Dawro Zone, on the north by the Dawro Zone, and on the east by Kucha. The administrative center of Gofa Zone is Sawla; other towns included Bulki. Gofa Zone was separated for Demba Gofa Woreda, Geze Gofa Woreda, Zala Woreda, Malo Koza Woreda, Gada Woreda, Uba Debretsehay Woreda, Oyda Woreda and the two town Administrations Sawla town and Bulki town.

Teltele is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. It is named after the administrative center, Teltele. Located in the southwest corner of the Borena Zone, Teltele is bordered on the southwest by Kenya, on the west and north by the Sagan River, the only river in this woreda, which separates it from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region, on the northeast by Yabelo, and on the southeast by Dire.

Districts of Ethiopia, also called woredas, are the third level of the administrative divisions of Ethiopia – after zones and the regional states.

Gamo Zone is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State of Ethiopia. Gamo is bordered on the south by the Dirashe special woreda, on the southwest by Debub (South) Omo and the Basketo special woreda, on the northwest by Konta special woreda, on the north by Dawro and Wolayita, on the northeast by the Lake Abaya which separates it from the Oromia Region, and on the southeast by the Amaro special woreda. The administrative center of Gamo is Arba Minch.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Wolayita Zone</span> Zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State

Wolayita or Wolaita is an administrative zone in Ethiopia. Wolayita is bordered on the south by Gamo Zone, on the west by the Omo River which separates it from Dawro, on the northwest by Kembata Zone and Tembaro Special Woreda, on the north by Hadiya, on the northeast by the Oromia Region, on the east by the Bilate River which separates it from Sidama Region, and on the south east by the Lake Abaya which separates it from Oromia Region. The administrative centre of Wolayita is Sodo. Other major towns are Areka, Boditi, Tebela, Bale Hawassa, Gesuba, Gununo, Bedessa and Dimtu.

The Transitional Government of Tigray was a caretaker administration that was formally declared by the House of Federation of Ethiopia on 7 November 2020, in the context of a conflict between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), in power in the Tigray Regional State and the federal government of Ethiopia. In late November 2020, the administration, headed by Mulu Nega, planned public consultation and participation in choosing new leaders at the regional and zonal level and preservation of woreda and kebele administrations. The Transitional Government left Tigray in late June 2021 during Operation Alula.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region</span> Regional state in southwestern Ethiopia

The South West Region, officially the South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region is a regional state in southwestern Ethiopia. It was split off from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) on 23 November 2021 after a successful referendum.

Ari is an administrative zone in South Ethiopia Regional State. Until August 2023, Ari was a part of the South Omo Zone. It is named for the Aari people, whose homeland is in the zone. Ari is bordered on the south by South Omo Zone, on the Northeast by the Gofa Zone and North by the Basketo Zone. The administrative centre of Ari Zone is Jinka.
